Choose a college that has an environment you'd enjoy exploring. In addition to a beautiful campus, your school should be in a city or town that you wo...…
I would like to begin by saying that I am honored to be a nominee for membership into the 2013 Senior Honor Society of York College of Pennsylvania. I take passion in my academic studies and my community involvement. The opportunity to be recognized for the impact I have made on my college and local community is truly flattering. After spending my first two years at Millersville University, I began my studies at York College in my third year of college as a junior. Living in Spring Grove, I made the decision to live at home, work a part-time job, and commute to York College. These factors are all things that could have impacted my campus-life involvement, but I was determined to not let these factors impact my college experience. I jumped head first into the York College Community and was accepted with open arms into whatever groups I wanted to become affiliated with on campus.…
An aspect of college that I have found exciting is the school pride. I expected to see everyone on campus focused on whatever it is their goal is at Polk State but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how amped up everyone got when there was a school function like club rush, spirit week, or even a basketball game. This small campus had me fooled that no one would care or bat an eye at school related activities but it seems like thats what this school thrives on, it reminds me of the same type of camaraderie you would find at FSU on a football game-day. Club rush and spirit week were the two things that got me the most excited about being a student at Polk State, not only were they bringing all the students together to mingle and make new friendships but it was fun.…
Before school had start most of my old teacher from high school used to tell me that Montclair State University was a really great school at everything. They had graduated from Montclair State University. They all told me great things about this school that I didn’t believed them until I see it with my own eyes. When I had started school, I was amazed with this school I felt like I was home. Most of the things that I like this school have it.…
My rite of passage was coming to Randolph-Macon. As I arrived at Randolph-Macon College on September 1st to begin my freshman year of college, I could not do anything but shake from being so nervous. My parents kept telling me that everything would come together and I would fit right in. I had never felt so out of place. Coming from a small private school, with a graduating class of 30, I could not bear to meet a freshman class that was as bigger than my hometown or my k-12 school. It was like I was a nightmare and no matter how many times I pinched myself, I could not wake up. I was trapped here without any friends or a vehicle to escape.…
After highschool I went to the University of Kansas. Remember everyone else from high school went there to. That was a mistake, once I got there I soon realized it was highschool 2.0, and not the right environment for me. The reason I chose KU was because everyone in my family had gone there. They all told amazing stories of campus and Greek life. I had also been a fan of KU basketball almost my entire life, the words “Rock Chalk Jay Hawk” had been engrained in my head since birth. Sadly, I didn't base…
My first few weeks of classes at UW-Platteville have surprisingly been fun and brought many opportunities of clubs I did not think I would join. When I imagined going to college for the first time, I thought I would cry and be homesick. To not be homesick I told myself to be involved with the Welcome Weekend activities and it worked! My classes were intimidating on the first day, but now that we have had many classes I am comfortable. I am using my time management skills everyday because I have many meetings to attend. Overall, I am glad I choose to continue my education at UW-Platteville because it feels like home.…
A first-generation college student is deemed as a student going to college for the first time. They have chosen to go to college and make something of their lives. However, many of them can’t attend college because of financial reason. These are the students that may have come from low, middle or high class families with no college tradition. Their parents want to support their decision to go to college, willing to provide support wherever needed especially assist with filling out financial aid forms; but as parents, they may be under a financial crisis and need them to start work to help the family out.…
When I graduated from Whittier Education Campus at thirteen, it was a major day in my family. Since, my parents hadn't finished high school, hence they were excited to witness another daughter start high school and the road to higher education. My promotion of higher education showed how willing I am to pursue a college education, demonstrating maturity and responsibility.…
Research became an integral part of my life over the course of one summer when I took part in the McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievemnet Program. This program lasted approximately two months but that short amount of time drastically changed everything I had planned for my future. After the program, I changed my undergraduate major, I altered the extracirriculars I was involved in, and my career goals shifted drastically from the plan I had in place. As a first generation college student, my perspective of possible career options was limited an did not include continued academic pursuits. Through the McNair program, my eyes were opened to a new realm of opportunities. For the longest time I had a simple understanding of what "research" truly…
Being a first generation college student, also lead me into wanting to study higher education. I am a firm believer that many people do not understand the disadvantages first time college students face. My road to Florida State University was not an easy one, it was filled with many questions that a single parent mother could not answer. With this being reason it lead to want to help those that were in college as well as on their way to college. Furthering your education is a wonderful thing. I know for sure that I have a bright and successful future in higher education, my growth, academics, and experience has lead me to wanting to pursue this degree. The enhancement of sports and education is a field that I believe I can build another foundation.…
Loyola University. A school I want to be a part of. Loyola was the first school I visited, and one always remembers the first school that they visited. As my mother and I walked through the polar vortex, we encountered another daughter and her mother. We introduced each other, and it ends up that we used to live in the same area of Chicago; Oak Park. She told me that she was already accepted and was greatly considering committing. I started to get excited at the idea of being accepted to college, especially Loyola. I was beyond satisfied and happy by the tour of the campus. Our tour guide was a Sophomore at Loyola, and his energy really radiated. He explained that the sizes of most classes are small, and that allows professors to get to know their students by name and much more than classes of 100+…
On one of the hottest days of last summer I experienced that “this is it” gut feeling when I stepped on campus for the first time. From the interactive wall in the admissions building to the artwork graffitied around campus to the large green spaces, the Green Line Stop, rubbing…
Every time I was asked the question “where did you graduate from?” and I would respond that I earned my degree from X College. And they say wow that is a wonderful and well reputed college. It gives me such an enormous feeling inside me when I hear that. Fortunately, I had the greatest moment and the best experience when I was undergraduate student. Luckily, the schedule of their evening courses accommodated my busy schedule perfectly in a way that I was working full time running my business during the day and taking most of my classes at night. That is one of four major factors that I took into consideration that made me think that X School is the one that will help me attain my goals.…
One of the greatest strengths that the K-State community possesses is a family bond. Anyone you walked up to was so welcoming and willing to help out with anything you needed; that is a very hard quality to find on other campus’. I am so excited to be apart of this family bond, while welcoming new family members. I can definitely add to the outstanding atmosphere that K-State offers. I take time out of my day to service people, I make an effort to better communities by putting forth a great deal work to become an exceptional role model, and I will reciprocate that family feeling I had on my first day.…
