The relationship between the two brothers in both opening numbers “Bounce” and “Waste” can be characterized as one with brotherly love and sympathy for each other’s past transgressions. In both opening numbers Addison and Wilson are overjoyed to see one another after years of separation. Sammy has a good head on his shoulders, but he ends up making the mistake of adjusting his morals and ideals in order to justify his lustfulness towards the women in skimpy bikinis. Sammy struggles with the common battle of good versus evil, and right versus wrong. He knows he should not be lusting after women, but he partakes in it anyway. He spends all this time observing every detail and even starts to imagine the lives of these women. The audience would suspect that Sammy is a supporter of respecting women and women’s rights by some of his actions. He even becomes flustered when the store manager confronts the girls in front of everyone over their appearances. However, Sammy refers to some female customers as “houseslaves in pin curlers”. It is ironic that he degrades some women in this way, while he is engrossed on others. Sammy contradicts himself through his actions. This reveals that Sammy is a young man who is struck by lust. He does not realize that the women he idolizes is on the same platform as the women he mocks for their gender related roles. He is bending his morals and ideals on women to make sure the women he marvels at get the good end of the stick. The young, attractive women, which he puts on a pedal stool, are equivalent to the average, everyday housewives. Both sets of women deserve respect and he is only giving it to the ones that fits his visual…

While Sammy was focusing on the aisle they were currently in; he couldn’t help notice that the three girls were not wearing any shoes! Sammy describes the first girl, “There was this chunky one, with the two piece- -it was bright green and the seams on the bra were still sharp and her belly was still pretty pale”. As the girls are walking his attention goes to the second girl Sammy describes her as, “the kind of girl other girls think is very, “striking” and, “attractive” but never quite makes it.” As Sammy is still taking his sweet time to keep his eyes on the girls he gets to look at the third girl who Sammy describes as a, “prima donna.” Sammy sees that this last girl isn’t like the other two she is not paying attention to anything else in the store and walking around as if she owned the place. Watching these girls Sammy being a teenager and all pays…

One of the girls said to her sisters that her doll “is the one with mean eyes and a ponytail. Striped swimsuit, stilettos, sunglasses, and gold hoop earrings. Mine is the one with bubble hair. Red swimsuit, stilettos, pearl earrings, and a wire stand” (Cisneros par.1) This shows how the girls compete with what they have and who has more and that’s an example of what everyone in society does; they compare an ugly person with the most beautifulest person in the world, and that would bring the ugly person’s self-esteem down. When an individual’s self-confidence is lowered, they try to bring it back up by changing their inner and outer beauty, and the idea of being insecure leads to people following…

The author uses the superiority theory to get her point across. There many times when they are trying to find things to survive most of the girls were so worried about the pageant look didn't care about necessities they needed to live. One of the girls had a tray in her forehead and because they couldn’t take it out they advised her to get bangs so she could still look good for the pageant. “‘You know what would be cute on you?’ Petra said... ‘Bangs. So 1960’s chic. You’d hardly notice the, um, the...addition.’” For comic elements author uses comic situations, hyperbole and irony. For example when Tiara find there going to be there for a while with not much food she says “Ohmigosh. No food at all...I am going to be super skinny for pageant time.”. Also there was many times and they compared what they were dealing with to happens in beauty pageants. This story is high comedy. I know this because one specific topic they talk about is racism. When Nicole comes they assume she is from the village even after she told…

    Barbie-Q

The first paragraph The allure of Cisneros’ story-telling lies in her ability to constantly introduce readers into conflicting states of emotion. Clearly, while the subject’s optimism is consistent throughout the first paragraph, critical readers can detect subtle shifts in feelings which range from sheer exhilaration (as she describes her Barbie’s item with great fondness: ‘evening elegance in black glitter strapless gown’, ‘puffy skirt at the bottom like a mermaid tail’, etc.) to slight disappointment (‘from so much dressing and undressing, the black glitter wears off where her titties stick out’), and eventual solace (shown by her contentment with the self-made clothes). The light tone in “Barbie-Q” is of premium archetype, as the young girl’s voice radiates enthusiasm and urgency. The pace in the first paragraph constantly picks up while the readers’ emotion is dragged down. The initial tension heightens as readers see the protagonist’s wish-list gets longer and longer, until she resorts to her own means in order to curb the fervor.…

Objective: For this essay, you will be analyzing Erik Larson’s style, revealing what devices he uses to convey his message(s) to his readers. The majority of the paper should be comprised of detailed close readings that analyze how his use of language contributes to an overall effect on the reader. Feel free to draw evidence from your journal (but don’t do so blindly, without considering if there are better options! You may end up taking only general ideas from the journal.). Your analysis should show real depth and insight, going beyond the obvious, and beyond what we have discussed in class. Your paper should also show an awareness of the entire novel. Focusing only on one section may hopelessly distort your analysis.…

The poem, “Barbie Doll”, by Marge Piercy, is about a normal “girlchild” who gets criticized by society for not looking like a perfect doll. She changes herself to fit society’s expectations just to fit in, but only in the end does society see her as “pretty”. Piercy’s purpose of the poem is to show how society has appalling expectations of how women show look and act. Imagery, irony, and tone are terms that show how vile society's expectations are.…

assess its validity, results, and relevance. (Hill, 2001) Critical appraisal of research is preformed by clinicians prior to using it to make healthcare decisions. The critical appraisal process systematically finds, appraises, and acts on evidence based research after thorough review. The use of critical appraisal also allows us to make sense of research evidence and allows us to begin to close the gap between research and practice. (Hill, 2001)…

Racism is not only present between blacks and whites, it is an issue concerning everybody, based on the colour of their skin, their religion and other factors. For example, since the attack on the World Trade Centre, Muslims and Arabs have been experiencing an extreme amount of racism in the United States but also here in Canada (Fakhreddin Jamali, 2003). This proves that people are simply looking for someone to hate. Anything can set it off but it is hardly ever justified.…

    Evaluation and Judgment

There are many different ways in which we evaluate people. The visual traits are one of the first to be noticed when we meet someone. These visuals include someone’s hair and clothing style, body shape and size, whether a person is fit or not. After meeting a person and getting past the visualization of a person we then observe or evaluate their communication by way of their tone and demeanor. We then categorize a person by what we have evaluated through first impressions in to a pre conceived category. If someone has a comforting softer tone it is likely to put people at ease and make them more comfortable compared to someone who may have a louder more abrupt tone which causes and uneasiness that make communication more difficult.…

A weakness of “A Descriptive Study of the Partner’s Experiences of Living with Severe Heart Failure” are the demographics of the partners’ sample. Convenience sampling was used in this study. The sample size was small and consisted of only 14 partners. 92.9% of the sample were married to the patient and Caucasian; 78.6% of them were women. The sample lacked ethnic diversity. The sample should have also included children and other significant others. The mean age of the sample of partners was 64.85 +/- 7.68 years ( Imes et.al, 2011). Convenience sampling offers a small opportunity to control biases; and therefore is a weak approach (Grove et. al, 2013).…

Despite switching majors from graphic design to film this year, I believe I have tried my hardest to learn as much as possible about film production through MIP II and DIP. During my freshman year, I was on three different sets lending a helping hand to my friends. This class has been a great refresher and I came in ready to learn what I didn’t know and review what I did know. So far I believe that I have done quite well in both of these classes, even if at times I’ve struggled with trusting my peers to help me with certain aspects of my projects.…
