First Impressions Of Fortunato In The Cask Of Amontillado
When I first read the Cask of Amontillado, my first impression of Fortunato was that he was a rude and arrogant man who waste his time drinking and admiring wines. I realized halfway into the story that I was only going off of the narrator descriptions and not Fortunato’s words and action. My general impression of Fortunato is that he is a jolly old man who enjoys fine vintage wines and is friendly to everyone.
In the short story, the narrator, Montresor keeps telling us that Fortunato insulted and hurt him. I noticed that there is no proof of Fortunato’s rudeness in the story. Fortunato was having a good time, being really friendly and spilling secrets too. He even cancelled plans with a very good friend, to spend time with Montresor. This

    To begin with, Montresor is an unreliable narrator. I think this because in the beginning of the story,(174) Montresor does not give any background or evidence of being insulted by Fortunato. The texts says, “ The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could...” Usually, when you are blaming someone that has done wrong to you, you would give a background, or evidence that they are in the wrong.
