First Read: Dear Miss Breed By Timothy Pina
“Thinking positive thoughts will always empower you! Do it enough and it will change your life!” This quote is from Timothy Pina who in 2003 had a near-death experience which changed him. He is now a successful author who has devoted his time to writing children's fiction, poetry, and screenplays to help other people realize the importance of overcoming life obstacles. Having a positive attitude like Timothy Pina is the best response to conflict because there is a greater chance of the conflict ending peacefully and people moving on to improve their lives. This is very important because in our current lives we should try and avoid violence as much as possible.

In this reading, it included many diary entries from Anne Frank. One of which specifically stood out to me, “I don't think I'll ever feel at home in this house, but that doesn't mean I hate it. It's more like being on vacation in some strange pension.” In this diary entry, Anne Frank looks on the positive side of things and believes that the conflict is more like a vacation. She doesn’t notice the negative reason of why they are even there, although she is completely aware of the conflict she sets it aside to focus on the positive things in life. In another diary entry, Anne Frank mentioned, “Father, Mother, and Margot still can't get used to the chiming of the Westertoren clock, which tells us the time every quarter of an hour. Not me, I liked it from the start; it sounds so reassuring, especially at night.” This excerpt is a magnificent example because it shows that the chiming of the clock which would usually bother people, like Anne’s mother and father, did not bother her but she felt reassured by this conflict. Anne Frank looked at this situation and thought of it as a good thing instead of a negative problem. Anne Frank proves that even if you are in a negative situation you can always find something positive about it and then make the situation an uplifting
