Spectrophotometry was used in the lab to determine whether non-magnetized zeolite, magnetized zeolite, or charcoal was the more effective sequestration agent for Procion Red Dye. A calibration curve was created with the known concentrations and the absorbances of the Procion Red Dye dilutions at λmax. The slope of the calibration curve was used to determine the concentration of the analytes. As a result, charcoal was shown to be the more effective sequestration agent.…

    1. Dello is a world-class PC company. Management believes that they understand their products and customers better than any outsourcing company; therefore Dello should provide customer service in-house. Ideally, Dello’s customer service department wants to handle all the customer phone calls. During peak hours, however, Dello receives so many customer calls that they ask an outsourcing company, Telemate, to help handle incoming calls. Dello’s switchboard system is programmed in the following way; A customer calls Dello at its 1-800 number. If there are 14 or less callers in the system waiting to speak with one of the customer service representatives, then the call stays within Dello’s system and the customer inquiry will be answered by a Dello customer service representative. If, on the other hand, there are 15 or more calls waiting within Dello’s system, then the incoming call is forwarded to the outsourcer Telemate, and the call will be answered by a Telemate agent.…

Spectroscopy is the study of matter interacting with electro-magnetic radiation (e.g. Light). In this lab, we will separate some light sources in to constituent colors and find out the wavelength of some atomic emissions. We will also try to compare the line spectra found from gas discharge tubes and flame emissions. Finally, we will measure the absorbance of Copper sulfate solution as a function of wavelength.…

The patient is a 62-year-old female who tells me that about a week ago she noticed bright red blood per rectum. She states she had a fairly normal stool, which was brown in color followed by drops of bright red blood into the toilet. She is quite certain this came from her rectum and not her vagina. She states the next day there was even a little bit more blood, and the third day continued. She then had several days where she did not have blood but then did have another day after this. For the last two days, however she has had normal bowel movements with no blood whatsoever. Her stools have been darker in color, but not black. She denies any epigastric pain, she does continue on her omeprazole 40 mg one p.o. daily with good success for her reflux symptoms. She did have a colonoscopy last in April of 2011, which was normal except for some left-sided diverticulosis. This has never caused her a problem before. Previous colonoscopy did show a moderate-sized polyp, which was an adenoma. She does have a family…

There are three different major types of spectroscopy techniques covered in our practical, which includes Ultraviolet-Visible Light Spectroscopy, Infrared Spectroscopy and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy & Atomic Emission Spectroscopy. The use of spectrophotometry in the analysis of chemicals quantitatively and qualitatively is common, since they’re readily available and generally easy to operate, at the same time giving fairly accurate and consistent results. The choice of instrument depends on the wavelength region of choice, which in turn depends on the nature of analyte, either they are coloured or can be changed into coloured derivatives; whether they contains functional group that absorbs light in the UV or Infrared region; or even other absorbing species that depends on the analyte present in the same phase.…
