163-164 in ADC where it talked about majority oppression was interesting. I know that many minority groups in the US are treated unfairly but I had not connected them as the book states on page 163. “The Deaf community has had to face many of the same linguistic and cultural pressures that various other minority groups in the U.S. have had to face: being viewed as inferior by the majority culture, schooling in an institutional setting, almost exclusive instruction under majority group teachers, discrimination in an exclusion from teacher training programs, forced instruction in the majority language, the prohibition of the minority language in the school, etc.” However the Deaf community faced additional pressure then the other groups. Such as “1. The Deaf community has had a more difficult time overcoming inferiority stereotyping by the majority culture. 2. In the Deaf community less than ten percent of Deaf children have Deaf parents. 3. The primary language of the Deaf community differs not only in code structure but in channel structure from the majority language.” This causing language oppression to be doubly sever for Deaf people.
