DEAR MR. PRESIDENT-ELECT. May I call your attention to U.S.C. Title 4 / Flag and Seal, Seat of Government, and the States / Chapter 1 - THE FLAG. in §8. Respect for flag - (k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. I understand that New York nightlife in the 80's, Club 54, Club 57, Limelight, and my personal favorite, Mudd Club, may impinge on your brain's available grey matter now that your 70. However, the possible consequence suggested in your tweet of jail, and, or, lost of citizenship may very well devastate VFW Posts & Boy Scout Troops

Many states have laws in place that punish those who mistreat the American Flag. This goes from burning to various other activities that some may find rude and uncalled for. In this newspaper for Illinois, Mercer describes the numerous amounts of cases all around the United States where people have been jailed for such acts. While this is a newspaper, this view was that it should not be against the law to burn flags.…

It says there should be no disrespect to the flag. I believe that burning the flag is disrespectful to our country and our military. I don’t think any American should burn the flag for any reason. If you don’t like the way our government is get on a plane or boat and leave. There are many rules about the American flag that people don’t follow and I think most people don’t know about the flag code. Like displaying the flag at night I see a lot of flags the people have up at night with no light on them the American flag should never see darkness. Another one is about having the flag at half-staff. A lot of people don’t realize that you should take the flag all the way to the top of the pole then lower back to half-staff and when you go to take it down for the night you should take it all the way back up and then lower it to the bottom with waiting hands. I respect the flag and what it means to our country, the only way I believe the flag should be burned is in Flag Retirements service. They are held by the VFW or an elk lodge and usually done on Flag Day. The only flags that should be retired at this time is ones that are to soiled or damaged to…

The flag that many people say he is disrespecting, stands for the very values that he is demonstrating. Having an unpopular opinion in a free democracy is never going to disappear, and trying to silence someone’s freedom of expression is even more disgraceful to the flag than kneeling during the national anthem.…

The American Flag is the embodiment of freedom, and is made powerful through dedication and sacrifice. The ultimate sacrifice for America and Freedom has been made countless times by the brave and selfless men and women of the American Military. Walking barefoot through snow at Valley Forge, being slaughtered on the beaches at D-Day, fighting in booby trapped enemy infested jungles, and battling an enemy driven by a religion that has no honor; these are Americans defending their freedom and the freedom of others. To give four years of your life you have to be dedicated to a cause; that cause has to be even more important if it requires that you fight and possibly die. Our Military has always been a large part of the "face" of…

What the United States flag means to me is freedom. I hear the stories of the people who have their whole life chosen for them in different countries. Which sounds absolutely horrifying to me. I enjoy being able to decide my future like what kind of job i'm going to have or what college I’m going to go to. I don’t want that taken away from me.The Flag also ensures me as much safety as possible. What I mean by that is we have so many people who risked their life and are risking their life right now to keep that flag standing. All those people who have died died to ensure that I and everyone else live free and that means the world to me.…

    Essay On Flag Desecration

    • 420 Words
    • 2 Pages

Flag desecration is intended as a political statement against our government and to evoke an emotional response fueled by a personal agenda. In reality, the American flag represents our country and not our government, along with the men and women of the armed forces, police forces, and firefighters that died in the line of duty. Even though flag desecration is protected under the First Amendment, it is still widely considered to be an insult and disrespect to anyone who has ever received our American flag from the passing of a loved one. Flag desecration should be made illegal and disregarded as a form of free speech because it's a misinterpreted form of political expression, it inherently dishonors and disrespects every person ever buried underneath our American flag, and it is completely hypocritical act to burn the flag of a country that gives you the exact same freedom of expression.…

Due to the financial crisis there have been many changes made to government programs to reduce costs and help with debt. Many of these cuts are happening statewide, in America’s public schools. The first programs that are being cut are the art programs, and the excuse is that the core classes are more important. The argument is that children need to be more focused on test scores in Math, Science, English and History. It is unfair to single out art classes, there should be a more even spread of budget cuts, not just the sole elimination of the arts. There are parents who are indifferent with the arts and they are unfazed by their removal from elementary public schools. What many of these parents do not recognize is that there are actually benefits of the arts that help with core subjects. Some benefits are strengthening problem solving skills, stimulating critical thinking and helping developmental growth. There is also a duel component that shows that there is a direct correlation between SAT test scores and art programs in schools, as well as higher participation and attendance. It has also been shown that the arts can help boost the economy.…

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send the homeless tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” Reference? America has long been the land of freedom and hope to the world, and the American military is what has kept her that way. People have forgotten how important and valuable the military is to the world that we live in. As part of the Budget Control Act of 2011, automatic sequestration calls for $1.2 trillion in lowered federal spending, with 50% coming from defense and 50% coming from non-defense budgets. If Congress cannot reach an agreement, these cuts will reduce the Department of Defense spending by about $55 billion dollars. On September 11, 2001, the United States faced a difficult time in which 3,000 lives were lost due to an attack upon the U.S. by terrorists who hijacked airplanes and crashed them into the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the United States Pennsylvania! That day, 9/11, has become a day in which we remember the lives that were lost and the families who were affected by such a tragedy. We called on our military once again, and they were there to protect our country. I am against automatic sequestration towards the military and military programs for many reasons.…

Online, physically, or verbally you can be a victim of being bullied. You don’t have to keep things as they are. The question is how to handle the situation (Do you attack the bully and become the bully yourself? Or do you ignore the bully and pretend all is well?) What you do is speak up and ask for help. I would know, because not only was I a victim, I was also a person who stood by and simply watched it happen.…

Persuasive Essay : Many people would be happy and satisfied if they were in a relationship with money and fame. Doesn't that seem like the perfect life? Everyone begins to think that in life that's all that matters, and that's all they need, nothing could be better. Society dictates our morals, feelings, the way we do things and try's to tell us certain things we do are wrong and we need to do them the way they feel necessary. Our generations to come will have no clue what the meaning of a true, harmonious, happy life. They begin to think that not telling the truth is ok , and eventually get so use to it that even if they could hear the truth they wouldn't want to. It becomes part of their daily life. Clearly our society, or government has their own sneaky, conniving ways to try and brain wash everyone. Due to the problem that most people would rather have love, money, and fame, it's very rare to find some one who doesn't have any of that but is satisfied with only knowing the truth. People look up to celebrities, but they do not set good examples or try to be role models. In proposing a solution to the problem of adhering to the actions of celebrities, the analysis relates to Henry David Thoreau's belief in individuality as he talked about in his book Walden. Who is your hero? Usually the answer to this question, at least for many of us, involves a famous actor or singer, a celebrity. The celebrities of the world are the wealthiest, most beautiful and most stylish individuals to walk upon the planet. These icons, however, seem to have no moral dilemma whatsoever with corrupting the public. They are role models to the public, just as parents are role models to their children. Children mirror the actions of their parents, as does society the actions of celebrities. Suddenly, few people in the world are content because they do not live the same lifestyle as Madonna or Michael Jordan. Henry David Thoreau offers solutions in his work, Walden, to the constant societal…
