Characters: The book accounts the early lives of Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class John Bradley, Sergeant Michael Strank, Corporal Harlon Block, Private First Class Ira Hayes, Private First Class Franklin Sousley and Private First Class Rene Gagnon that were part of the flag raising on Mount Suribachi in February, 1945.
Here a paragraph should be written about the most interesting character of story you read in book: The most interesting character in the book was Private First Class Ira Hayes. Ira Hayes was one of the three survivors that was part of the flag raising. He displayed symptoms that are now known as posttraumatic stress disorder. During a visit to the white house, President Harry Truman called Hayes a hero and the Marine said, “How could I feel like a hero when only five men in my platoon of 45 survived, when only 27 men in my company of 250 managed to escape death or injury?”
What happened to the main character of the story? John Bradley was the main character in the book. He married his childhood sweetheart and had eight children. He avoided speaking to reporters and finally gave an interview in 1985. During the interview, Bradley said he would not have raised the flag if he would have known how famous the photo would have become. He stated that he did not want to live with the pressures of the media and desired to live a normal life. John Bradley lived to age of seventy and died of a heart attack. His family later found a box of letters and photos. James Bradley utilized those documents to retrace the lives of his father and the men of his Company.
