Andrea, I like the paragraph you pulled from the book because it really sheds light on the major changes of how life is lived now. To Ish, the great disaster is something he has experiences first hand where the younger members of the tribe have only heard of what happened. As generations continue the great disaster becomes history, another event in a book. The first hand experience is gone because all who lived during it have pasted. There is a world of difference between experiencing something and being told about something. It reminds me of 9/11, being that freshmen entering high school this past year are the first class to learn about 9/11 as history because they were not alive during it. It’s a foreign concept for me to think that student…

It was unusually cold on this morning of September 11th, 2001, and my alarm had just went off. The odd but needed 5 am. was when I woke up, because my flight was going to leave around 8:30 and I needed to be there on time. The reason I was flying to San Francisco was I was having a family reunion with my dad, my step-mom, and my step-brothers. So, I jumped in the shower quickly with joy and excitement. I hadn't seen my family in forever since I had gotten a job as the assistant of the manager in Ralph Lauren Headquarters. I had just gotten my hair dried as I heard my phone ring. It was dad, making sure that I was on my way. I talked to him for a few minutes and then hung up. I glanced at the clock and realized…

My teacher, Ms. Epton, brought us outside to watch the shuttle launch; something many kids have to watch on television, but those of us living on the coast got to witness firsthand. I remember seeing the fiery glow of the shuttle, the gasps by the adults, and quickly being hurried back into the classroom. Not much was said about what had happened, it was not until later that I fully understood.…

September 11 2001 Narrative8:30 AM. I am in a meeting with Alliance Consulting CEO 's in Building 1 World Trade Center. We are all discussing booming businesses in the NYC region, getting very excited about a little computer chip processing company that has been getting very high marks on their last quota. All of a sudden, there is a loud whipping sound and the building begins shaking. Just a blink later and my hearing is gone, and I am lying on the ground trying to understand why the only color I see is blood red. I try to stand but realize that my legs are pinned by a 315 pound conference table with a smoked glass top and stainless steel frame. I emit a horrifying shriek, and my coworker Stanley Johnson runs up to me and yells at me to push on three. I can barely understand his terrified voice, but still push as hard as I can when I hear the word "one" come from his blood filled…
