Flight Centre founded by Graham Turner in 1981. Flight Centres vision is ‘To be the world’s most exciting travel company, delivering an amazing experience to our people customers and partners. Well haven’t they achieved this, having won market global market share.
Is an extremely successful company considering he started out with just one bus. In Australia alone Flight Centre has 1152 business units. These cover holidays, cruises, rail and flights.
Turner was quite innovative in his management shown through Turner his idea to focus on his profits being driven by ‘volume rather than margins.
Flight Centre has established and bought different brands now consisting of more than thirty to cater to different levels of customer. Examples of this include, Corporate Traveller and FCM to cover the corporate market. FCM Travel Solutions can now be found in more than seventy-five countries. Turner has not forgotten about us students either with Student Flights and Overseas Working Holidays. For anyone looking for a discount holiday, he also has Escape Travel and Travelthere.com to name a couple. Flight Centre have all areas of the travel market covered. This is how they have coped in this current business environment – through not only buying out the competition, but to catering for all types of people from different walk of life all with differing budgets.
It’s international growth has been phenomenal with locations in eleven different countries around the world including Australia, New Zealand, South Africia, UK, US Canada, China and India to name a few.
Within this current global market, Turner has also been smart enough to move into other markets so that he is not just reliant on one area. Flight Centre took acquisition of companies such as Employment Office Australia, Advanced Traders as well has going into a venture with 99 bikes.
