needed, my grandparents paid the price and it made me realize I wanted to someday attain an education that would allow me to keep others and my parents from suffering the same fate that my grandparents did.
I spent the first half of my life on the island of Guam, 210 square miles in the middle of the Pacific and the last half travelling the world and much of the United States. My parents are first generation immigrants from the Philippines. It was from them that I learned the definition of hard work, and true perseverance. Guam, the forgotten territory of the US, is a melting pot of various Asian influences with a distinct Spanish heritage and a culture that has shaped me to my very core. After growing up with so much exposure to different groups of people, I am a firm believer that diversity and respect for other cultures are integral in being an effective and competent healthcare worker. My opportunity to serve in the U.S. Marines also afforded me the ability to travel around the world, and gain exposure to the many cultures and traditions aside from my own. This experience has taught me to be more understanding of situations that people may be facing, the importance of being respectful, and establishing a trustworthy relationship with people would contribute to enhancing the diversity of the student population environment.
My professional goals in life are further advance my education in nursing to become a flight nurse.
This way I could combine my knowledge from flying and working on aircrafts while serving in the military with the necessary skills and knowledge that I will attain from the nursing program. Then maybe with all the necessary requirements accomplished from training, schooling, and working it will eventually lead me to one day become a nurse anesthetist or practitioner. I recently discovered the program through a friend and with careful consideration and diligent research of all schools in the area; St. Luke’s seemed as the one of the top nursing program candidates to apply for. After attaining this knowledge, one step in achieving my goal was to apply to the St. Luke’s Nursing School
program.
