ABSTRACT Flow of incompressible fluids (example: water) can be determine by using several type of methods with using the flow measuring apparatus. This experiment is to demonstrate the characteristics of several different commonly used methods of measuring fluid flow rates. This experiment also needs to determine the head losses associated with each flow measuring methods (venture

When my group went to the first station, we were testing the velocity how long it took a bobber to go down stream. To do this station, we used a piece of bamboo, string, and a bobber. We had to test the depth of the water which was 32 centimeters deep. Then we measured how long the string was and it was 285 centimeters long. After that, our group got into the water and timed how long it took to get the bobber to flow down the creek until it reached the bamboo, my…

The experiment performed was Experiment IV: Fluid Flow Meters and Tray Hydraullics. The group was composed of Alex Long, Khanh Ho, Tricia Heitmann and myself. The first day of experimentation was April 16, 2013. On this day, Alex and I ran the sieve tray apparatus to study the vapor and liquid tray hydraulics parameters for sieve type crossflow distillation trays. Tricia and Khanh ran the fluid flow apparatus to determine the operating characteristics of the Venturi and orifice meters.…

ABSTRACT: The objective of the experiment was to be introduced to working with the lab equipment, specifically heating and measuring, and to be able to create some of the apparatus that future experiments will require. Heating methods used were an aluminum block, a sand bath, and a water bath. The aluminum block heated most quickly while the others were more stable. Regarding the measurement of water, the less volume of water that was being transferred, the less accurate the measurement turned out to be.…

In part 1, it was determined that the graduated cylinder is the most accurate and precise, as the average density, 0.987g/mol, was very close to the accepted value, 0.9977045g/mol. The percentage of error in the table 1.1 (graduated cylinder) was very low, with 1.10% compared to 15.8% in table 1.2 (pipet) and 1.92% in table 1.3 ( buret). A reason for which the graduated cylinder was the most accurate and precise could be for the following: one was capable of measuring the amount of tap water at an eye level, as for the pipet it was too high and a miscalculation could have happened seeing that one has to…

In this experiment, The purpose of this experiment is to investigate the measurement of the actual volume contents of volumetric glassware. In the beginning of the experiment, the volumetric glassware should be clean and dry before used. The volumetric glassware, measuring cylinder and pipette should be handled with care and all the precautions were be taken during the experiment was held. This was to ensure to avoid any errors such as parallax error especially while reading water meniscus. This experiment must be repeated three times or more and take the average reading to get more accurate data. By using the formulae, the standard deviation and relative standard deviation could be calculated. As the result, the lower the standard deviation, the higher the consistency of an instrument. Although the instrument may measure a given sample, the value might need to be altered due to various conditions and errors.…
