Flower Symbolism In The Great Gatsby

The flowers represent Gatsby already experiencing his moment with Daisy in the past, and how Gatsby still tries to recreate their doomed relationship even when itś broken and dead. Five years ago Gatsby was walking with Daisy on an autumn night. He wanted to kiss her but he knew he would bind himself to her and his path for life would go to a new direction.¨Then he kissed her. At his lipś touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete¨ (Fitzgerald 111) Daisy blossoming after Gatsby kissing her represents the ending of their relationship. They already had their moment together, and after Daisy blossomed, they won't be able to recreate that moment. This is why after Gatsbyś party he walks around feeling disappointed.
¨He broke off and began to walk up and down a desolate path of fruit rinds and discarded favors and crushed flowers¨ (Fitzgerald 109) The flowers surrounding Gatsby at the end of the party are crushed and discarded. The flowers won’t be used again and don’t have the same look and appeal before the party started. This is how crushed and discarded Daisy and Gatsbyś relationship is. They were discarded five years ago from eachother, and now coming back to one another their memories are crushed. The flowers represent the ending and crushed relationship between Gatsby and Daisy. After Gatsby kissed Daisy five years ago, she blossomed and reached her peak with Gatsby signaling the end of their relationship, at the end of the party on chapter 6 Gatsby walked around and saw crushed flowers. All of his hopes with Daisy got crushed like those flowers but still believes he can recreate the past.
