9.1 Introduction:
-The framers of the Constitution had to convince the people that the Constitution was the best idea for a government for the country. They wanted to make sure that ordinary citizens could understand it, so they gave it a short intro and organized it into parts, called articles. The articles were broken down into sections that discussed topics in a specific order.
-The Constitution combines a strong framework for government with flexibility. This combination makes it a living document. It keeps its basic nature, but it changing with the times.
9.2 The Preamble Tells the Goals of Government:
-The Preamble is the introduction to the Constitution as gives the reasons for the new government.
-It begins with “We the People”. These words show that the Constitution based its authority on the people. The power to form this government came from the people, which is a concept known as popular sovereignty.
-It also lists the goals of the new government. 1. To form a more perfect union. (Build a country by taking advantage of are strengths from working together). 2. Establish Justice. (Ruled by laws that apply to all the people). 3. Insure domestic tranquility. (Keep peace and order among the people and government).
4. Provide for the common defense. (National government would be responsible for protecting the people from foreign invaders).
5. Promote the general welfare. (Support and economy and society in which people could prosper).
6. Secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity. (posterity meant the future generation, so liberty for the future).
-People were still suspicious of a strong central government, so the delegates/framers tried to create a balanced framework that people could trust.
9.3 The Legislative Branch Makes Laws:
-Article 1 of the Constitution gives the power to make laws to the Legislative Branch.
-A bicameral
