Prior to conducting this focus group, we researched college students and soda, and a list of possible soda flavors. Some soda flavors we found were cucumber, watermelon, garlic, strawberry, and some odd flavors like ranch. St Mark’s also learned that college students like to mix their alcohol with soda such as Sprite/Sierra Mist or Coca Cola/Pepsi. We also found out that students are switching from drinking soda to coffee.
From this focus group. We wanted to explore the majority of flavors consumed by the college community. We wanted to find out what their favorite flavor as a whole may be. Then we wanted to go into specific flavors such as fruit, vegetable, ice cream, and candy flavor. Out of all these flavors, we wanted to see which one is the most popular amongst the students and which would make the best new soda flavor. The soda must sound appetizing.
The moderators guide included 31 questions pertaining to beverage and soda consumption. Questions are: How many cups of soda do you consume daily? What is your favorite soda? Do you prefer regular or diet? If your preferred brand soda flavor is not available, would you consider trying another? If so, what is your alternative choice? Do you prefer Pepsi or Coca Cola?
