School Board discussed Thursday night around 7:00 p.m. of ongoing Elementary School cleanup and several other concerns.…
In the first video at John Smith Middle school, on Friday, April fifteenth at 12 pm, the classroom observed was in Mrs. Blue’s middle school class. This class was not as ethnically diverse; there were only Caucasian and Hispanics visible. From what was shown there were eleven boys and ten girls. In the second video at Luther High school, on Wednesday, April thirteenth at 11 am, was Mr. G’s high school class. This was a larger ethnically diverse class, with ethnicity ranging from, African American, and Hispanic. There were relatively ten boys and eight girls.…
The Cornerstone Christian School of Manchester Connecticut is a non-denominational Christian school serving students, in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Twelfth, from the surrounding communities. Accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), Cornerstone seeks to teach, train and transform their students though curriculum that focuses on Christ, the Bible, service, community, excellence, and a global outlook (The Cornerstone Christian School). Their preschool classes are located on the lower level of their main building with the three-year-old and four-year old classes having separate rooms, adjacent to each other. On the mornings of Thursday, February 2nd and Friday, February 3rd, 2017, I had an opportunity…
During the third week at Agnew Middle School, my target was to observe Ms. Davis’ classroom procedures.…
Effective instruction requires teachers to be knowledgeable of the content in which they are teaching. When instruction is effective teachers are aware of different learning styles along with the various methods of teaching strategies to meet the needs of the all students. At Deerfield Beach High School we use a common board configuration in our reading department that I feel is very effective. Everyone uses the same terminology along with the same format. Collaborative planning plays a big role in our effective instruction. The learning goal and learning is clearly stated in student friendly vocabulary so that students can understand and own them. Students have a very clear understanding of what the long and short term goals are and what…
I have had the opportunity to go to two middle schools due to moving locations. This paper is going to be based on my experiences at Hermosa Middle School in Farmington, New Mexico. Since, this where I started caring more about my education and I can relate more to this placement. To begin with, Hermosa Middle School serves grade from 6th-8th. The demographic in this school is about 42% Caucasian, 31% Hispanic, 23% Native-American, 2% Asian, and 2% African-American. Notice, that there is a high population of Hispanics, I believe that this is why I started to be more involve at school. Prior to moving to Farmington, New Mexico; I lived and attended a junior high school in Huntington, Utah where 5% were Hispanic. I can honestly state, “That Hermosa Middle School is a contemporary developmentally responsive middle schools”. I quote this because I can point out the differences between what both schools had offered me as a student.…
The three year olds gross motor skills, which are related to active play, consisted of throwing a large ball and running at a long distance to catch it, jumping up and down, climbing up the slide and jungle gym with ease and quickly. There was constant movement with the child in all the 45 minutes that I observed her and her level of activity was very high. It was hard to catch her at moment of stillness, and even then he would be fidgeting under the table or in her seat. Her fine motor skill included, using crayons and coloring a picture, and even though most of it was scribbles(which at this age they tend to do), she was able to remain inside the coloring picture outline. At many points through the day, I caught her zipping up and down her…
The main purpose of this paper is to observe and evaluate an ELL lesson using the SIOP (The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) checklist ("Lesson Plan Checklist For The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP)"). The emphasis of this observation will be on Lesson Preparation, Building Background, and Comprehensible Input. Using literature as an English learning tool is the lesson that we will be assessing in the paper.…
Washington Elementary School is located in West Orange, New Jersey in a neighborhood where mostly African American and Hispanic businesses and people were surrounding the area. As I arrived to the school or left, I usually only saw minorities in the surrounding neighborhood. This correlated with the students I saw in the classroom I observed, and throughout the school. In the classroom there was a total of 17 students, all of which were minorities. Ten of the students are Hispanic and seven are African American. I did not see too many White or Asian students throughout the school, or in the neighborhood. However, the racial and ethnic demographics for West Orange showed that the majority of the population is White. Statistics on race and ethnicity show that 62.1% of West Orange identify as being White, 17.1% as being Black, 10% as being Hispanic, 8.1% as being Asian, 2.4% as being two…
Today many public schools have pre-kindergarten programs. The children in these programs come from different experiences, backgrounds, and all have different needs. Pre-kindergarten programs give children an advantage to learning prior to kindergarten. I performed my second filed observation at Pinkston Street Elementary School in Henderson, NC. The elementary school is in a rural county and this school has lots of diversity in which there are African-American, Caucasian, and Mexican students. The classroom that I observed is one of four pre-kindergarten classrooms in the school. The elementary school is also one of three of the schools in the county to require…

This observation took place on Saturday October 17th at Town Center Corte Madera at approximately 2:00pm. The day was bright and sunny and the Mall was full of all kinds of parents and children. I choose a male child approximately 3 years old, wearing blue top and black pants with sponge bob square pants sneakers. The mother was wearing a yoga outfit as most mothers in Marin seem to wear these days. She was in her mid-thirties. Dad was also present, he wore a short sleeved Hawaiian print shirt with Khaki shorts and flip flops, and he too seemed to be in his mid-thirties. I was sitting at the table near the elephant fountain facing the fountain with my back to the store so know…
Once again, I was placed in Mrs.Metcalfe who teaches second grade at Bens Branch Elementary. Mrs.Metcalfe took attendance while the students waited patiently on the carpet. After she took attendance, she addressed that she had taken some privileges away from the students because the students did not picked up their mess after having centers and would not follow instructions that the teacher gave. She explained that centers might return for the upcoming school year if they behaved properly. After she addressed the issues of the students, she instructed everyone to go back to their desks and waited till they put their thumbs which meant that they were ready for the lesson of the day. Mrs.Metcalfe went up to the front of the class to use the projector and expected her students to follow what she was doing on their worksheets.…
The teacher’s role was to provide a safe and learning environment, encourage students to try to perform to the best of their abilities and facilitate the structure of the curriculum to meet the needs of the students and grade level standards. I could tell she is very supportive to all her students and serve as a motivator because she is always encouraging them to do better and never give up. She also shared a story about her childhood…
Middle school is significantly different from high school; the middle school I went to is small compared to Ridgeview which has far more opportunities. Ridgeview has presented itself to be stronger, more demanding, and far more open. A few things that have been demonstrated to be far more taxing are band, different classes, and the method of accomplishment.…
