Under the presidency of S.A.D.D (Students Against Destructive Decisions) in my high school, I've conducted and lead many projects to help many organizations and even planned and coordinated many community service projects. But, out of the many project that the club and I have planned and created, I would have to state that I've projected my leadership role the most while our club and I went to Feeding South Florida for a field trip that I've planned. The reason why I state this is because, Feeding South Florida was a common place that many people knew, especially our members, and so before we got to the warehouse, I've explained the purpose Feeding South Florida stands for and the job that we would have to do there. When we got to the warehouse and began working, I would help the members and other volunteers carry boxes that were a bit heavy for them to carry and to help them understand how to sort the items that were donated to the warehouse into categorized boxes that they had provided to us. The purpose on why I led this project is because of the purpose behind Feeding South Florida, which is to collect, pack and send foods to the many shelters and food kitchens that they have provided in South Florida and working on this project created a positive effect on my life. The reason why I state this is because, while volunteering, it made me feel as if I was privileged.…
Now that Christmas is over, I am sure you all are wondering how our can challenge is taking place, especially since Super Bowl Sunday is around the corner ( Feb 5th to be exact). We are collecting cans and various other food items for our local food pantry, which is always in great need during the winter months. Not only are we collecting for a great cause and need, we are also collecting to see Pastor wear some great Steeler’s gear. As part of the challenge, he would wear the Almost Famous Steeler’s Stole for 1000 collected items. If we collected 2000 items…there is a special item Pastor will wear. Let’s hurry and collect those food items to help our neighbors and convert Pastor in a Steeler’s fan.…
The written piece from Food Justice by Robert Gottlieb and Anupama Joshi goes over the issues surrounding access to fresh food, communities of color, dominance of corporations and defines key environmental terms. It is overwhelming to acknowledge the seriousness and desperation that is displayed in the writing of this book. One aspect of the reading that stood out to me is the defining of terms such as food desert and how this term describes the realities of the living conditions of communities of color and my community in particular. The lack of access to fresh food, full-service markets and the congestion of communities of color with fast food chains and liquor stores are information that I am recently being exposed to and knowledgeable about;…

The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…
Food insecurity is a concern not only because of hunger, but also nutritional excellence since higher calorie foods are often less nutritious and can put people at amplified risk for obesity or other chronic diseases. Watauga county has an estimated 9,730 people who are food insecure, while 1,920 of those are children (ACS, 2009-2013; Map the Meal Gap Study, Feeding America). Poor transportation cuts off access to many food outlets, specifically for those people who do not own a car and or have access to reliable/affordable public transportation, such as the AppalCart. Many urban areas in Watauga face a double bind that severely limits their access to fresh, healthy food. Full service supermarkets and farmers’ markets are scarce in low-income…
At the beginning of the video, he described and showed audience that South Central is a food desert and full with fast food and liquor stores. Those people who live there are just like other 26.5 million Americans with lack of healthy food. Ron Finely presented background information on the problem “ lack of healthy food”, which is easy to gain audience’s attention and interest to further learn about his claim (Finely). After that he said that, “Problem is the solution, which means food is the problem and solution.” This argument is attractive because they appeal to the appropriate audience. Everyone around the world cares about their health and their food. People always give a sympathetic response when food’ issues came out. Food is substance and it provides nutritional support for our body. Absolutely, people cannot live without food.…

Food deserts are places where at least 500 people or a third of the population reside more than one mile from a supermarket or large grocery store — according to the CDC, “Food deserts are areas that lack access to affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat milk, and other foods that make up the full range of a healthy diet” (CDC). Furthermore, these food-deprived areas may exist in both rural or urban areas, but only in locations where there are geographic or socio-economic problems.…
Hunger in America can be hard to recognize. With how the economy is now, the effects of hunger are more severe. Many Americans are relying on food stamps and private organizations to help with this crisis. Millions in this nation are currently suffering from hunger in America. Half of that being from job loss. More than 12,000,000 children suffer from food insecure hunger because of limited or uncertain access to nutritious food. About 900,000 are hungry in the three- country Detroit metropolitan area alone. The hardest hits are the elderly, the unemployed, immigrants, and the mentally and physically impaired.…
Global food security concern has become a global challenge to all nations. To address the issue United Nation calls for project “Zero Hunger Challenge”. It is a global initiative by UN that invites all nations to ensure food security for all citizens. In response to UN, United Nation Youth and Student Association of Bangladesh has come forward to make people aware and motivate to reduce food wastage. The part of the campaign was held in National Bank Public School and College, Dhaka on 29th June. The response was overwhelming. Despite of having unfavorable weather, the classroom was full of curious and enthusiastic young minds. The program was conducted session by session. In the beginning session resource person Mr. A.K.M Shahidul Islam addressed the issue of environmental vulnerability and food security in the context of global and national level. Following this a brainstorming session was conducted where students came up with unique solutions of ensuring food security. Meanwhile the president of UNYSAB Mr. Mamun Mia gave his welcoming speech. During the second phase of the program Deputy Manager of ActionAid Mr. Tanjirul Islam enlightened the students about environmental degradation and future threat of food security of Bangladesh. The dialogue between students and speaker was interactive and view exchanging. After the session the principle of Nbpsc thanked and welcomed the initiative of UNYSAB and pledged for his future support. Respective panel gussets were honored by giving crest handover by President of UNYSAB. In the last session a quiz contest was arranged by UNYSAB volunteers. Among all students three of the students were awarded for best scores. Although none of the students got back home alone as each one was given a plant. Finally the program was concluded by the notion of ensuring a better future for all. The strategic partner of the program was ActionAid along with UNYSAB and the media partner was daily…

«Access to sufficient food by all people at all times for an active and healthy life” The UAE food security definition is to design short and long term strategies around the Food and Agriculture Organization>s (FAO) recommended three dimensions: Availability, Affordability and Accessibility.
