In this era of globalization, where we talk about world friendship-brotherhood and world peace, where we intervene in a country, where democracy is not working well, where military spending is increasing day by day. Where first world country like USA throwing their surplus food at Atlantic, then millions of people are dying from hunger in Africa. What kind of justice is this? Is this called free economy, is this called brotherhood, is this called spreading peace all over the world?
Food security is also a difficult issue like this matter.
Bangladesh is one of the developing countries of 3rd world and half of its people can not get food twice a day. Though Bangladesh is a agricultural country, still it has to import rice, wheat, oil etc (staple food). Market prices of our daily foods are not stable. Agents are profiting crossing the normal level of price. To stable market government facing various problems now and then. Poor people starve as they can not afford money for food and suffered by various diseases and malnutrition. And there is as well problem of unemployment. So government of this country is not being able to provide food security to its huge people. Though they have taken some initiatives, but those are not sufficient.
DEFINATION OF FOOD SECURITY:
“ Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access of sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.” (World FoodSummit, 1996)
So by this definition we can say that, food security is proper access of sufficient and balance diet food for all for all time, so that people could lead healthy life. Commonly the concept of food security is defined as including physical and economic access to food that meets people dietary needs as well as their food preferences.
