FoodCorp Reflection
The FoodCorp simulation was the perfect exercise to wrap-up this semester’s curriculum. With the simulation mocking a management team with the task of making decisions related to the growth and success of the company, I was able to apply my improved leadership style and lessons learned in class to my assigned roles. I served as the Senior Vice President of Finance, member of the Executive Committee, and headed the Acquisition Committee. As a senior member of the management team, I had a high level of authority which gave me the opportunity to put all of the leadership styles and techniques we’ve learned in class to the test. Like I have in the past, I enjoyed holding a position of power. Although I enjoyed my responsibilities, there were many challenges for the roles that I had. Eventually overcoming those obstacles, I learned a lot about adaptation, compromising, and conformity in a team setting throughout the simulation. I also realized how well some of the leadership techniques we’ve learned about work when building a productive and effective team. At the end of the simulation I felt as though we accomplished the team goals we set out to achieve, I accomplished my own goals that I set out to achieve, and I grew as a leader.
My first reflection on the simulation pertains to my roles as SVP of Finance, Executive Committee member, and head of the Acquisition Committee. In the beginning of the simulation I struggled to remain focused on one task-at a time. Even during my preparation, I realized that I was constantly jumping from task to task and never finishing one before moving on to the next. This also affected the quality of my leadership because I was unable to complete my own tasks. It was not until after my first Acquisition Committee meeting when I focused in on one task at a time. This change happened because I had planned on approaching each acquisition separately so that the entire committee could carefully examine
