Football Vs Baseball Research Paper
Each year millions of Americans watch and play both football and baseball. Whether it be the excitement of a walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, or a Hail Mary pass in the fourth quarter, we continue to enjoy them year after year. While Texans may argue that football is the superior sport, and Californians the opposite, can these sports really be compared? Nearly everything about them is different, right down to the shape of the ball. But both sports unite us, whether it be on the field, in the stands, or at home on the couch. They teach the value of teamwork and communication being used to achieve a common goal. Despite both football and baseball being based on teamwork, the type of teamwork used in football can help more in …show more content…
The lengths of games differ though, with football being played for four fifteen minute quarters with a possibility for a fifteen minute overtime period that may result in a tie, and baseball being played over nine innings, with no limit of extra innings, no limit on time, and no possibility for a tie. The time of year is different as well, as MLB seasons last from early April to early November, compared to NFL seasons which last from mid-September to early February. The difference in playing seasons is partially due to the amount of games played. Football teams in the NFL play sixteen games over seventeen weeks. After the regular season, there is a five week postseason in which fifteen games are played. MLB teams play 162 games in a season, with a five day break in July. An MLB postseason could include up to forty three games, but, like in football, it lasts for five weeks. A reason for this smaller schedule is that football is played much more violently than baseball. Player injuries are still common in both sports though. In the early days of these sports, death was a very real and very common possibility. In spite of that, they are still enjoyed by millions …show more content…
The teamwork for the two sports is different though. In football, the offense is eleven players on the field at once. Seven of these players must be on the line of scrimmage at the start of the play, and the other four must be off the line. In baseball, the offense is the batters and baserunners, which means that a maximum of four offensive players must be on the field at once. While baseball players must work together on offensive, cooperation and trust is more important in football because if one lineman does not block, or one receiver take a different passing route, the play may fail and an injury may

On the surface baseball and football do not really seem that similar. Baseball is a game played between two teams of nine on a diamond shaped circuit of four bases where football is a game of two teams of eleven on a field marked out as a gridiron. However, the players in these sports are actually quite similar in some ways and different in others. Players like Calvin Johnson, an NFL wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, and Yasiel Puig, an MLB outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers have many differences like their early lives, positional value, and overall success. Both Johnson and Puig are excellent athletes in their respected sports and are similar by their teamwork and leadership, physicality and athleticism, and statistical value.…

America’s pastime and the tailed off version. The similarities and differences between baseball and softball. Baseball and softball are different and similar, the most obvious ones to the common eye are baseball fields are much larger and have a minimum of 300 feet and the players pitch overhand while in softball the field is a minimum of 200 feet and the players pitch underhand. The similarities entail the general concept of the game like “three strikes you’re out” and also while hitting the players both want to make contact with the ball and the bat the exact same way because they both want a nice level line drive rather than a pop-up.…

Baseball is a very fun game to play. While playing the sport the idea is to hit the ball and score a run the more runs you score the better. Baseball is a bat and ball sport played between two teams of nine players each. The object of baseball is to score runs by hitting a ball thrown, with a bat and touching a series of four markers called bases arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or what they would call a diamond. Unlike the majority of sports, baseball playing fields can vary significantly, within certain guidelines, in size and shape of the field. Players on one team take turns hitting while the other team tries to stop them from scoring runs by getting hitters out in any of several ways. You can make an out by making a play at the bases, striking out the batter, or by catching a fly ball. The teams switch between batting and fielding whenever the team that is fielding gets three outs. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning. There are nine innings that make up a professional game. The team with the most runs at the end of the game is the winning…

Baseball is a game of skill that requires two teams consisting of nine players; a field, and equipment, such as gloves, bats and baseballs. To start, you will need nine willing players per team to participate. One team plays defence in the field , while the other plays offense at bat. The pitcher throws the baseball to the catcher with a offensive hitter in the batter's box trying to hit the pitched ball. Next, the umpire is the official that calls balls and strikes. A strike is a pitch thrown by the pitcher that crosses the plane of home plate between the hitters knees and letters, which is chest height. If it is within this zone, it’s a strike. If the pitch is not in this zone, it is a ball. If the hitter does not hit the pitch into the playing field before receiving three strikes, he is out.…
