My FFA supervisor and teacher, Alicia Hampton, proved to me that I can do anything if I work hard enough. Alicia came to me and asked what my interest in agriculture was. At the time, I had no idea. The more I thought about her question, I realized there was not specifically one field that peaked my interest, they all did. From the study of animal parts and judging based on certain aspects, to studying the parts of a flower to learning to plant and care for flowers and produce, straight down to the animal slaughter houses. I do not want to focus on just raising livestock or just growing produce, I want to grow produce, raise livestock, judge cattle, pigs, sheep, and horse, know the different cuts of meat, and be able to teach my fellow Americans about what I love doing.
During my first year as an FFA member, I got my Green Hand Degree, and received a Horticulture award for taking care of the greenhouse for my chapter. In addition to the flowers and small trees that were being grown, we were in the process of germinating bell peppers, peppers, jalapeños, onion, chives, pumpkin and strawberries. The culinary classes also grew spices in the green house and asked me to take care of them. I managed my extra-curricular activities, my 3.51 GPA and my class rank of 51. I have not taken the SAT/ACT yet. I am waiting closer to the end of the year to do so. Awarded by Ford Dealers, there are 500 scholarships that are available at $1,000, the additional five scholarships available to students without Ford Truck Dealers, who participate in this scholarship. 505 scholarships for the 629,327 students participating in FFA. Most students want to focus only on one topic to major in, where in my case, I want to learn about it all and major in Agriculture Education. FFA showed me that being a leader is not difficult and being involved is not as hard as it may
seem. This scholarship could make a change in anyone’s college patch. I am willing to work hard and stay on the agricultural path. Originally, I did not think I would be a good candidate for being a Future Farmer of American, but plans change, which can change decisions. Thank you for your time and consideration.
