From the moment I was born, then adopted in Ghanzhou, China as a six month-old infant with unknown parents, to where I walked down the aisle on the football field to get my high school diploma in the state of New Jersey, I have always had the fascination to balance life as if it were a chemical equation. Like the universal solvent, water, it is certain that an abundance of college applicants will dissolve like the solute, sugar. This leaves a cloudy mixture, much similar to searching for one’s own individual purpose in life. The water turns clear after a few vigorous stirs and it’s as if life went back to square one and everything were in its place. However, if life was that simplified, the whole human race would know their exact destiny and…
Most college students spend countless hours trying to decide which major to choose; which major fits them the best. However, I had the unique blessing in having my major choose me. I believe that the field of psychology of chose me from a young age. People always feel very comfortable around me and open up to me. Whenever someone I know has an issue or they are feeling emotionally distressed, they outreach to me and we talk about what is bothering them.…
Dr. Edmond Locard’s Exchange Principle states, “Any action of an individual, and obviously the violent action constituting a crime, cannot occur without leaving a trace.” It is hard to say Locard’s Exchange Principle was not disregarded. After three months of expert investigation it was found that the DNA evidence that was discovered at the scene did not belong to Jennifer or Noura. Also Noura’s own DNA was not found at all at the scene of the crime. It is very hard to understand how Noura could have made extreme violent contact with her mother and not left any fingerprints, footprints, hair, skin cells, blood, bodily fluids, pieces of clothing or fibers behind. This lack of traces evidence sets off two different paths in my mind. One way leads you down a road of pure hatred for a parent. Everyone was felt this way one time or another in their life, where a disagreement or argument over something that is usually aimed at protecting the youth, leads to a massive outburst or feeling of rage, that is always immediately followed by guilt or remorse by a normal human being. But what happens when this rage affects a “not so normal” child. One with malice aforethought, that is just so tired of being controlled that they premeditate a murder and thoroughly clean any trace of evidence. The other path is the road Noura’s defense took. She is irrefutably innocent and Jennifer’s killer/killers are still on the loose.…

Surprisingly, my interest in forensics didn't come from binge watching CSI Miami or admiring thrilling documentaries on crime and homicide. My obsession with fulfilling a career as a forensic scientist actually came from witnessing a man walk free of a crime everyone knew he committed. As the daughter and niece of several lawyers and police officers, I have the had plenty of opportunities to sit through numerous of criminal trials and one case in particular influenced my career decision. A man on trial for murder was acquitted due to lack of evidence collected at the scene of the crime making it hard to legally punish the him. Later, he admitted to the family of the deceased that he did kill their son, but it was impossible to re-trial and…

At the time, I began my undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign it was my aspiration to become an early elementary teacher. However, in the middle of my sophomore year of my undergraduate studies, my ambition of being a schoolteacher changed. After taking and enjoying many psychology courses, I became enthralled by the discipline. I wanted to pursue careers in the fields of psychology and education. My interests in psychology and my passion for working with children in an educational setting are one of the many reasons I took an interest in the career of a school psychologist.…
I have always enjoyed mysteries and the reasons behind them; therefore, I chose a Psychology major and Criminal Justice minor. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my English classes; from Composition to Literature; I felt a passion which I had never felt before. Participating in an Honors English Literature class became something I relished. We analyzed a novel, developed a power point presentation, lecture, activities, and taught the material in a class. This experience and my semester as a Cognitive Psychology teaching assistant reminded me how much I appreciated the process of…

Currently, I have been a plumber for the past 14 years. Although, plumbing is something that I enjoy doing I often find myself being a listening ear for those who are struggling with this thing called life. Although, it would take a lot of schooling, sacrifices, sleep, and long time career, I believe in my heart that God has called me to be psychologist. My goal is to work in a prison and work with inmates, who have been through a bumpy period in their lives. I have been through a lot in my life my life and so I believe that I can identify with others feelings. I am emotionally sophisticated and intelligent and can usually single out up what other people feel and go through because I picture in my opinion in their shoes. I just love the idea of going to work every day and doing something I love: “helping others”.…
