Foreshadowing Examples In Research
Foreshadowing helps build a feeling of suspense when reading a text. Based on my research, foreshadowing is a hint or when the author mentions something that will happen later in the story. Foreshadowing can be used to help the reader infer or predict what will happen next in the story. This also be used to build a feeling of suspense by having the reader wonder what will happen next. For example, if the author foreshadows that there is a day that shows significant meaning to the protagonist, then there is a feeling of suspense that starts to build up around the question of what will happen on that day. Suspense is a feeling that someone gets that has them anxious to learn what will happen next.

Foreshadowing is when the author gives a hint or warning to something that is going to happen. Foreshadowing holds the reader's interest because they try to use these clues to figure out what happens next. “An abrupt sound startled him. Off to the right he heard it, and his ears, expert in such matters could not be mistaken. Again he heard the sound, and again. Somewhere, off in the blackness, someone had fired a gun three times” (69). This passage is foreshadowing because the sound did not sound like an animal. Rainsford would later figure out that the sound was a human.…

In the novel Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck foreshadowing is used a lot. Foreshadowing is the use of hints or clues to suggest what will happen later on in literature. Foreshadowing is strong throughout the beginning of the story. The first time it arises is in the first paragraph when the grandmother is reading about the crazed killer by the name of the Misfit who is on the run and headed to Florida. She tries to warn the family about the Misfit and “what he did to those people” (182) at first it is thought that she is only saying these things to keep the family from going to Florida, but after looking closer it is really foreshadowing what will soon happen to them.…

Foreshadowing is a writer’s use of hints or clues to indicate what will occur later in the story. Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men contains many examples of this technique. Steinbeck begins, in the opening scene of the novel, to reveal the central conflict in the plot - Lennie’s great strength and his inability to not “do bad things.” This flaw eventually catches up with the pair and everything that Steinbeck has foreshadowed materializes in the final scene of this tragic story.…

Shocking revelations and plot twists in a story are needed to keep the audience from boredom. In most cases, subtle hints or foreshadowing are thrown here and there, serving as portents of such surprises. However, the audience rarely pays attention to these little details; they tend to focus on the big picture rather than specifics. This makes the effects of the revelations and surprises appear greater than they would otherwise have been. Only upon a closer analysis of the story do these foreshadows become evident.…

Hobbes and Smith are at odds about the idea of how power plays into social order creation. Hobbes believes that in the state of nature, man has no power to control others, and because of this, everyone is aggressive towards one another, as no one can trust another. Because of this, social order is necessary to give man incentive towards cooperation and trust, by selling your individual rights to freedom in order to gain social rights of security and safety. The role of the social order is to combat man’s aggressiveness, man’s power to hurt one another and direct this towards positive social ends instead of destructive.…
