In the play Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare, the author, includes a vast amount foreshadowing in his work. Shakespeare often recurs to the fate of Romeo and his love for Juliet through certain characters such as Benvolio, whose advice for Romeo to remedy his lovesickness for Rosaline proves to be more than effective; thus, Shakespeare integrates foreshadowing.…
Hamlet became mad over a course of period as it seems, but Hamlet is only acting. So the question will be does Hamlet want to die before he conquers his revenge on Claudius or will he want to continue on with life? Hamlet becomes very wishy washy with his emotions throughout the play. Sometimes Hamlet is happy and sometimes he is mad, as well as crazy. Claudius is on the hunt to get rid of Hamlet, but little does he know Hamlet could be considering getting rid of himself without the help of Claudius.…
Set Design As a director I am going to depict Act 1, Scene 4 as a halloween horror/comedy type of movie. The setting is an old barn and its mischief night which changes the plot because seeing a ghost would be somewhat expected because of the day. It’s pretty stereotypical to have some kind of creepy abandoned building in a horror movie so a rundown barn would also express the decaying motif that’s expressed throughout the play. The characters in these movies are typically dressed similar (ie. The Addams Family and Ghostbusters)…
Many playwrights utilize foils to assist the audience in deeply understanding the meaning of a play or the motivations of the characters . Foils are minor characters that have similarities or differences with a major character. Often the minor character is in the play so that the major character has someone to speak with. The similarities between the foil and the major are typically gender, same social class, or being in the same situation. The differences between the two may be an important aspect in their character. In his play Hamlet, William Shakespeare uses the Ghost, Laertes, and to foil Prince Hamlet and help define his character for different points.…
• The audience knows the truth about Old Hamlet`s death, however, all of the characters in the play, apart from Hamlet, believe that Old Hamlet`s death was a tragic accident.…
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark has remained the most perplexing, as well as the most popular, of William Shakespeare’s tragedies. Whether considered as literature, philosophy, or drama, its artistic stature is universally admitted. To explain the reasons for its excellence in a few words, however, is a daunting task. Apart from the matchless artistry of its language, the play’s appeal rests in large measure on the character of Hamlet himself. Called upon to avenge his father’s murder, he is compelled to face problems of duty, morality, and ethics that have been human concerns through the ages. The play has tantalized critics with what has become known as the Hamlet mystery, that of Hamlet’s complex behavior, most notably his indecision and his reluctance to act.…
In the world of Hamlet nothing is what it seems. There is so much going on in his life that he is possibly going insane. With all of the emotions Hamlet has from the events that happened he needs a way to express that, and he does so with his words. Most of everything Hamlet says has multiple meanings. Hamlet’s life is very unclear, and at times so are his words. Out of defense, he uses puns, metaphors, and double-entendres for his primary weapon against the people who have deceived him.…

Understandably, the intense relationship between Hamlet and his uncle is not a sturdy bond, even before Hamlet learnt of his father’s murder, and before Claudius began to fear for his safety. It is believed that Hamlet’s distrust and dislike towards Claudius sprung from his mothers “o’erhasty marriage” 2.2.57 and would certainly be the origins of Hamlet’s suspicions. The best scene in which to view the relationship of Hamlet and Claudius would be Scene 3 of Act 4, where Claudius confronts Hamlet about the murder of Polonius.…

The play Hamlet is without a doubt an odd story to read based on what society today has become accustomed to. A brother killing another brother, and then marrying his wife. It is not a typical story in the modern world today. There is a vast variety of different themes that can be traced throughout the play, however the most popular is madness and sanity. Madness and sanity shape the play into what it is, without madness and sanity the play would have no life. Certain actions would not occur, certain events would not occur, and certain statements would not occur. Hamlet is a perfect example in the thought of is he acting insane or is he truly insane?…

A comparison is something that could be defined as examining two or more things and finding differences or similarities attached to them. In the world today, many people compare different things when they choose to purchase something, or they are talking about other people. In the world of literature, many things can be compared whether it be settings, symbols, or even characters; there is always something that is able to be made into one. Hamlet by William Shakespeare is about a prince names Hamlet, on his quest to avenge his fathers untimely death, as per his uncle, Claudius. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling is about a boy named Harry, and his quest to avenge his parents' deaths, and save the world in which he lives. For both characters, Harry and Hamlet, there can be many similarities found between the two. By delving deep into the two characters, one can find major similarities in their circumstances, motivations, and settings that they are found in.…
In Shakespeare's Hamlet, Act III scene 1, Hamlet's soliloquy of "To be or not to be" is full of metaphors that bring the various themes of the play together. One of the primary themes of the play is Hamlet's uncertainty of action and inability to decide how to cope with the problems he faces. In Hamlet's soliloquy, Hamlet metaphorically discusses his indecisiveness about the importance of continuing his life and asks himself "whether tis nobler of the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and, by opposing them, end them." Hamlet wonders whether it is worth facing all his problems ("slings and arrows of outrageous fortune") or to commit suicide ("and by opposing them, end them.") Hamlet metaphorically compares the problems of his life to "slings and arrows" and to a "sea of troubles."…
