forest
As you go deeper into the never-ending forest the outside world closes. Not a house, a car or a person in sight, all alone in an enchanted forest. The trees stand together yet are still completely alone. They are like shadows, haunting one another. I looked up at the glistening, starry leaves, gleaming like raindrops. The sounds of the rattling of tiny plants, grass, and swirling leaves on the ground was almost completely silent, only the wind that made the whistling sounds among the bare trees was the only sound that was deafening to my ears. Colors shimmer everywhere, shades of golden reds and oranges, bright yellow, moss green, the dusty brown of the tree trunks and the enchanted light at the end of the road as if it is leading me to a magical place. The treetops are catching the last bit of sunlight before the sun goes down for the day. I hear the soft rustling as the trees branches as if whispering to each other. The birds are singing to each other and the buzzing of the bouncing bees. When the clouds are ebony and gray, and the trees are bare, nature says walk in here in this path, if you dare. Where plants rot and trees are colorless, all humans who enter will despair and depress.

The Deer Ladies Leaves twirled around me as I stood in the middle of this lonely, yet enchanting forest. A small flutter fills the air as hundreds of leaves float down from the treetops, then the silence returns as the leaves touch the surface of a nearby pool. A faint song rang through the trees, accompanied by the occasional cry of a raven. If only every day could be like this. silent and peaceful, yet hear the storm brewing.…

You feel the cool air warm up around yourself. There is a pleasantness that can only be found in these warm winter days. Birds squawk overhead. In a pack they fly in v’s. You wanted to fly, but the dream fled after you jumped off the deck. Birds gain height, you gained a broken arm. The birds slow and descend onto the small patch of grass to your left. Wildlife is all around you, but the adults don’t seem to notice. Not far ahead, a squirrel shoves acorns into his mouth, climbing up a tree he deposits his cache into a hole. He runs down the tree to start the process again. Nature is a cycle, a loop that won’t…

It can also be a place to reconnect with nature.” There were two sides of how the forest/ jungle can be explained. During the earlier years I feel like the forest/ jungle was thought up as a peaceful and tranquil place to be. Although I feel like as time started to move forward people have started to move away from the peaceful and tranquil place in the words and started to think of the scary place with the…

The sun shone vibrantly through the trees and I loved the way it complemented the gold leaves. I started to notice the incline to the top of the hill, it was steady unlike the Adirondacks where you go up and down. When I got to the top I saw a spectacular view of the surrounding neighborhoods and way in the distance I saw the buildings of Rochester. As I stood there I admired the pure beauty that lies so close to home. It is hard to believe that a wilderness like this one could be surrounded by suburban neighborhoods. Being higher up and in an open space I could really appreciate the mixture of golds, oranges and yellows it was different than being on regular ground level. I thought to myself ‘’I should do this more often, it’s peaceful and healthy.’’ I felt a certain peace with in me while I’m in the woods, suddenly my phone vibration broke my train of thought. It was my stepmom texting me to see if everything was okay, I replied yes and I’d be back at the trailhead in a short time. The leaves snapped and cracked under my feet on the way back and the crisp fall air made the not yet fallen leaves dance in the trees, it was getting later in the day. I was three quarters through the loop so I was still fine,I wasn’t…

As a child, I was raised my whole life in the country side. My mother and I had lived for years in a lonely shack at the edge of the small village we called home. At the very edge of the village was an eerie forest, a forest that seemed to beckon unwary fools into entering it. I was always told as a child to never go near the forest, especially at night. Some people say that a bear lives there, while others say that a serial killer lives there, and some even say that a monster lives there, either way the forest is always portrayed with death. I remember various occasions in which I would wake up for reasons unknown, only to find myself outside in my backyard staring at the edge of the forest, the soft moonlight caressing my bare skin, the crisp night air followed by the refreshing scent of grass. On one occasion I thought I heard a…

I clearly remember when my family and I visited the cathedral pines, one of the most marvelous places in Wisconsin. The cathedral pines consist of coniferous trees with long spindly branches and some low laying brush. The humongous evergreens tower above us, so tall they appear to touch the top of the atmosphere. The timber stretches out around us in all directions, as if the forest never ends, my world swallowed by trees. As we stand in the center of the woods, I gaze at ancient pines surrounding us, standing like giants and rooted strongly into place. Here, the barren ground lacks a single shrub or bush to block the path. However, to reach the middle, we trekked through the thick leafy brush that crowds the trunks of young pines still sprouting…

At the end of the road was a narrow, overgrown trail, that followed along the sloping edge of a branch head. At the end of the trail, it felt like stepping out of a hallway into an open arena. One the day of the first excursion, Ryan and I got up early, had our breakfast and pack for a day out surrounded by Mother Nature environment. We took a bus ride about 4 hours with a group of other people that is also going on this trip. We arrived at the top of the lake and then we got our lifejacket on and went onto the bamboo raft with our guide. The water was not clean, there was some debris floating around the lake, and that because heavy rain had fallen the night before. The water was more in a darkish black with the looks of cloudiness to it and had no smell at all, but yet it looks creepy. On the brighter side, the forest is something to talk about. The trees are very old according to the guide, most of these trees are over 100 years old, pretty amazing I say. The shape of some of these trees are wonders and I even came across one with a face, it actually feels like it was looking at me, watching my move, as if it was the protector of…
