Life Changing – Forest Gump Essay Jenelle Stanley Context in an individual’s life can drastically affect their belief of their capability, their choices, and their future relationships. In the film, Forest Gump by Robert Zemeckis, the character Jenny is struggling to believe that she could be ambitious or successful. Jenny never had good example set for her, and did not always make emotionally or physically healthy decisions as a result, and for most of Jenny’s life she could not accept peoples love or give people trust. The context she had altered her sense of self-worth and potential, the decisions she made, and her ability to accept strong emotional commitments and put faith into people. A person may never challenge themselves to her their full potential if they don’t believe they could accomplish much. In Jenny’s situation this low confidence was a result of years of an abusive relationship with her father. She grew up believing that she was not worth anything, and did not deserve better than how she was treated. She told forest about her dreams of singing on a stage for people, and being famous. The only attempts she made at that goal was to sing and play guitar at a “strip club.” She was exposed and vulnerable, just like she had been while she was young. The men called out offensive things to her and for the most part she just took it. When Forest tried to stand up for her she pushed him away, and did not appreciate it. Forest said “They was tryin’ to grab you” and she replied “A lot of people try to grab me.” She accepted the fact that men shouldn’t, and do not treat her right, and she only pushed away the only one that tried to help her. Her lack of confidence from the years she was treated poorly affected how she viewed and treated herself later in life. An individual may never learned how to deal with their emotional problems, and how to physically treat themselves properly because they never had a proper influence when growing up, or
