SINKERS and FLOATERS
Purpose:The purpose of this investigation is to provide an overview of photosynthesis and to design and conduct an experiment to test the factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis.
Hypothesis:If 10 leaf discs are placed into 2 plungers and placed under a lamp the CO2 rate will speed up the process of photosynthesis.
Materials:
-Fluorescent lamp
- Hole punch
- 1 Sharpie marker
-20 leaf discs
-Syringes
-12 mL cups

Analysis: By increasing the CO2 concentration it will increase the rate of photosynthesis until other factors become limited.
2. The reason a vacuum was created was to draw the air out of the mesophyll tissue in the leaf discs.
3. The baking soda the carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. When the light hits the tube the leaf discs will produce oxygen gas and float to the top.
4. Oxygen accumulates in the air spaces of the spongy mesophyll, and the leaf disk will once again become buoyant and rise in a column of water.
Conclusion: 6CO2+6H2O→C6H12O6+6O2.
2. Water, Light and Temperature are the main environmental factors that will affect photosynthesis, along with availability of CO2
3. If photosynthesis ceased there would be little food or organic matter on
Earth. Most organisms would disappear, and in time Earth’s atmosphere would become nearly devoid of oxygen.
b. ATP is formed by the addition of a phosphate group to a molecule of adenosine diphosphate (ADP).

Purpose: Cells produce toxic wastes, in this experiment hydrogen peroxide, and without some sort of molecule to break it down the cell will die, along with the organism itself. However with the aid of an enzyme, catalase, hydrogen peroxide is able to be broken down into an intermediate and thereafter harmless substances water and oxygen. The goal of this lab is to measure the reaction rate of this process in different substances such as a liver, a vegetable, and breast tissue. By using variables such a pH and temperature we are able to how the rate of reaction is altered or improved. If it has improved, the optimum has been discovered and the enzyme will create a higher reaction rate. If above the optimal points, proteins will denature and the reaction rate will remain the same. This is vital for cellular activity for if homeostasis is not reached enzymatic activity will decrease or the enzymes will simply denature and the toxicity within the cell will increase killing the cell.…

When the drop of detergent is added to the powdered surface, the initial effect is to draw the powder back to the edges very rapidly as the detergent molecules form their own surface layer with a lower surface tension than the water. As the detergent gradually mixes with the water, the powder begins to sink, and a needle will now pass through the surface with ease under its own weight. However, the calcium and magnesium salts of many detergent molecules are soluble, so detergents still lower the surface tension of hard water…

The patterns of distribution related to rock pocket mice coat color is primarily focused on the genetic variation regarding the fur color of the mice. The population of mice that possess a lighter fur color typically live in regions that contain light coloured rocks within the environment. Still, mice that have a darkened color fur will most often be found in areas in which the environment is surrounded by volcanos with lava flow. The common pattern of the coat color between the rock pocket mice show a correlation with the terrain color, in which there is an adaptive mechanism against predators, which increases the chances of survival.…
