In the book Forrest Gump does everything that happened in the movie plus a few additional things. Gump in both stories plays college football, becomes an incredible war hero, starts a huge shrimp company, and plays ping-pong for the United States Army against China, but in the novel he also becomes an astronaut who gets stranded on a cannibal island, a champion chess player, and a professional wrestler given the name “The Dunce”. These events just take the book way to far from reality. He meets Jenny as a childhood friend and falls in love with her hoping that one day they could be together. He loves his Mom who was always very supportive of him as a child, and cares deeply about his two friends Lt. Dan and Bubba. Platoon is a film attributed to the Vietnam War, and is based on an infantry within the U.S. Army. The film begins with Chris Taylor, the protagonist played by Charlie Sheen, who is a young, naive, and wealthy college dropout who decides to enlist in the war and help his country like his father and grandfather before him. When he arrives in Vietnam he is the underdog to the grunts, he is nothing compared to the more experienced soldiers. The grunts “can take it, can take anything” because “they’re the bottom of the barrel” (Platoon). Chris Taylor’s first sight of Vietnam is a pile of body bags that take his place in the helicopter for the return trip. He enters an infantry division that has two different commanding officers; Staff Sergeant Robert Barnes, played by Tom Berenger, and Staff Sergeant…

If you’ve never seen the film ‘Forrest Gump,' you need to clear a couple hours and experience it! This film won six Oscars, sort of hard to say you would be wasting your time. Most people enjoy the memorable catch phrases and the flash from the past journey it takes through the twentieth century. However, a principal character “Jenny," whom Forrest falls deeply in love with upon first sight, may become your least favorite character. The movie ‘Forrest Gump’ can leave the audience with mixed emotions indeed!…

The character I have chosen is Lt. Jimmy Cross from the story “The Things They Carried.” Jimmy Cross is the leader of Alpha Company in the war of Vietnam, although he seems like he is not part of it. “He had difficulty keeping his attention on the war […] but then he would slip away into day dreams, just pretending, walking barefoot along the Jersey Shore” (p.279). This quote clearly shows that he was living in a parallel world between the war that he was living at that moment and his obsessed love for Martha.…

but I know what love is.” This is my favorable quote in this movie, and I think this figures out the man who is called ‘Forrest Gump.’ He knows that he is not a ‘smart man,’ not a stupid, so he really hates that he is called a stupid. Also, he never gave up something with a lame excuse like ‘I can’t do this because I’m weaker than normal people, and my I.Q is lower than others’.’ Although almost his achievements like running, becoming an American football player, going an army are not his intention, he did them with a pure and simple heart. He has just run steadily in silence without caring about…
