I went to Italy for a few weeks and I would have spent an entire lifetime if I could have. The first place that I went in Italy was a small town called Portofino. It overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and is surrounded with Italian villas on the tops of mountains. There are huge vineyards filled with grapes and are also surrounded by the sea. Portofino is known for it harbor containing fish and other aquatic life. Also, many people own boats along the seaside and take them to visit other towns.
I also went to Venice, Italy, which is completely surrounded by water. Venice is known mostly for is architecture but also its art. Everything in Venice is built on wooden piles in the water. To travel anywhere in Venice you have to take a boat from town to town. Venice is also known for gondola rides at the Grand Canal.
In Italy we took a few different ways of transportation. To get to other cites we took a train. Riding on a train is a completely unfamiliar thing to do in America but in other countries it is how you get around. We took boats to go to towns that were not too far away. The plane ride there was about ten hours and the airports in America versus the airports in Italy are somewhat different.
Rome was my favorite place to visit because it had the most beautiful sites to see. It is a huge city full of history and stories. Visiting Vatican City, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and many other ancient buildings was unforgettable.
Overall the trip was a success and I think that travel is a memorable thing that everyone should get to do a few times in his or her lifetime. New surroundings, new people, and a new atmosphere are
