we fail to build a solid foundation.
According to Msgr.
McNamara, the first corner stone is the teaching of Jesus. It was found in the Scripture and Tradition, which comes through the teaching of the Church. Jesus says that it is very important for us to seek our faith in a central authority. Jesus also teaches us that all love comes from God. Without the Catholic Church, people may not be humble and honest because God becomes whatever we choose God to be. Our life will eventually become full of inanition and chaos. Therefore, the teaching authority of the Church is crucial to our Catholic tradition.
The second cornerstone is the Eucharist. A mean is meant to be a time for conversation and sharing friendship, which can be a great treasure for us. At every meal, we are sharing life-giving food and drink. If we act in ways that are life-destroying, then we have entirely missed the meaning of the meal. The Eucharist is a meal just like other meals, but it is more than the most special meal that we can imagine. To participate in the Eucharist is to share Christ with others, and this sacramental life of the Church is closely tied to our
life.
The third cornerstone of the Christian life is the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We all sin, and we all may fail to live the ideals of Christian life sometimes. These sins will separate us from God. But Jesus forgives our sins and teaches us that we should attend confession regularly. The core of the teaching is not to avoid sin, but to face it and learn to forgive others, therefore living a justice and peace life. Forgiveness is an important step in eliminating the road blocks that exist in our relationships. When we truly experience forgiveness from God, we will know how refreshing and revitalizing this experience is.
The last cornerstone of Christian life is personal prayer. Personal prayer is like an invisible bridge that links us with God. Our faith is an adult faith that has developed through maturity and experiences. I have strong feeling for this cornerstone because I had experienced the power of it. When I came to America at age of 14, I had no idea what does it mean to live alone. On my 14 hours of flight, I had prayed so many times that I asked for God’s support and help so I can get used to the new life easier and faster. After the prayer, I have the faith that my life will not be that tough. Now, when I look back to all the obstacles I had faced, I know God is there with me.
The four cornerstones are very important for us to live the Christian life. We need to develop a stable foundation and faith in God that he will always be there when we are suffering. My experience has not only makes me more mature, but also help me understand that we need to be prepare for great challenges.
