Ethic of Justice focuses on rules, laws, and more “abstract concepts of fairness, equity, and justice” (Shapiro & Stepkovich, 2005, p.13). Application of the Ethic of Justice “serves as the foundation for legal principles and ideals” (Shapiro & Stepkovich, p.13). On the other hand, the Ethic of Critique challenges the status quo and uses a critical lens to analyze and reframe concepts, including power, privilege, and inequities (Shapiro & Stepkovich, 2015). In contrast to the Ethic of Justice, the Ethic of Care considers consequences and values input and collaboration from multiple voices in the decision-making process. With the Ethic of Care, hierarchical, top-down formats are challenged with a more inclusive approach taking precedence.
