Boston is a large city which is located in Massachusetts. The estimated population of Boston in July of 2008 was 645,169 (City Data, 2011). Crime within the city of Boston has over the years been steadily declining. Though most major crimes in the FBI crime index have shown small percentages of decline from previous years, there are some areas of crime such as burglary that have shown an increase over the years. As the population of Boston increases it is essential that the levels of crime within the city are analyzed to reduce the levels of criminal activity while providing a safe community for citizens to reside in.…
Public safety and the safety of communities are one of the most important areas of focus for the police, which is why I chose to do my policing paper on the crime prevention program known as TAVIS. TAVIS stands for Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy and was created on January 5th, 2006 which included 3 new rapid response teams with 18 officers on each team. The idea was that the teams could be released instantly if any gang or gun violence was reported. A total of an additional 72 officers were formed into these teams and are strategically placed throughout Toronto in the most gun violence or gang oriented areas to prevent crimes from occurring. Throughout the summer months the teams are placed in specific locations for lengthy periods at a time to cut down on the criminal activity. The declared objective for TAVIS is “The Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy is an intensive, violence reduction and community mobilization strategy intended to reduce crime and increase safety in our neighbourhoods”.1 TAVIS addresses the problem of high levels of criminal activity for such small neighbourhoods or communities in Toronto. For instance, the neighbourhoods of Keele and Eglinton and Jane-Finch area received more TAVIS officers during the summer months due to the high levels of crime in the areas for them being such small neighbourhoods. TAVIS has 3 main parts to the program. Those parts consist of 1. Additional Toronto Police Service officers are assigned to areas experiencing an increase in violent activity, 2. Once the neighbourhood is safe, ‘maintenance-level’ enforcement continues with increased police/city/community member collaboration, and 3. ‘Normalized’ policing provided as support to an empowered community.2 A main goal for TAVIS is to become more engaged in the community and…
SARA Problem-Solving Process . The Department of Justice published the pamphlet, Crime Analysis for Problem Solvers in 60 Small Steps . Step 7 addresses the Problem solving process. Discuss the four components of the SARA model. How does the SARA model contribute to identifying and narrowing the crime or criminal issue for study? Why is it important to proceed through each step consecutively and not skip steps?…

It is aimed to only resolve individual incidents rather than focus on recurring events or crime problems happening at the moment and finding solutions for future cases. This leads for residents to believe that the police have no way to help them prevent and solve crimes in their community. I believe that Situational Problem Oriented Policing is the least to produce illegitimacy or unresponsive policing to generate legal cynicism because it makes sure that whatever problem is occurring they go further than just answering calls. The enforcement will search for steps and solutions that create such problems and apply those solutions to any other occurring crime or problem. This helps to reassure residents that they are being involved and are safe in their…
In this paper I will be explaining critical issues in policing. I will address the following key aspects of policing activities and operations: The dangers of policing, less than lethal weapons, technology used in policing, issues of homeland security and law enforcement relationships, and one additional critical issue in policing that is of interest to you and with that I will explain the issue and explain how the issue is relevant to this paper.…

This paper will focus on the current trends that affect policing in the twenty-first century. I will also take a look at any anticipated critical issues that may arise within policing in the future and address some changes that may need to take place in order to correctly address the issues.…
To begin with, in today’s society, the Criminal Justice system is broken. A person’s trial can have a different outcome depending on their ethnicity. Statistics prove that all races are not treated equally, whites always have an advantage for being the dominant group in the U.S. At this period in time, there has been a lot of shootings involving African Americans the most. In various incidents, law enforcement officers state that they felt that their life was in danger when the suspects were not armed.…
This is indeed one of the last projects for this term. I have had an awesome time in this class and I have learned a lot with the different projects that we have been asked to do. As I begin this project I will try to describe a few different things and hope that you learn as much as I do as you read this project about Community Oriented Policing and Problem Oriented Policing. These are the two different types of policing that I will be describing though out this project. There are nine different things I hope to be able to cover in this project about Community Oriented Policing and Problem Oriented Policing.…
The component of community partnership in Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) is that the “collaborative partnerships between the law enforcement agency and the individuals and organizations they serve to develop solutions to problems and increase trust in police” (Community Policing Defined, 2012). The second component in Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) is the organizational transformation which is “the alignment of organizational management, structure, personnel, and information systems to support community partnerships and proactive problem solving” (Community Policing Defined, 2012). Lastly, the problem solving component for the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) would be described as “the process of engaging in the proactive and systematic examination of identified problems to develop and evaluate effective responses” (Community Policing Defined, 2012). Compared to the traditional policing it services is an “incident-driven style, handling each incident as if it had neither a past nor future related to other BART issues or incidents” (Rainey,…

Abstract. This work shows the development of the design and manufacturing of a very small engine, namely its head. The engine works under the 4-stroke cycle, therefore having a very complex cylinder head, housing the camshaft, valves and its auxiliaries (seats, guides, springs), spark plug, inlet and exhaust passages and a coolant chamber. The geometries, both inner and outer are highly intricate which makes the production of such a part a very difficult job. In addition, when the engine is very small, as it is the case of this engine, all dimensions are miniaturized therefore making it extremely difficult to design, cast and finish. The cooling chamber, in particular, has a critical inner core removal problem due to reduced accessibility, imposing casting limitations. The cores place also a problem of air and gas removal during metal filling and solidification. Rapid prototyping may be the only solution to build the cores, and may help in the design and manufacturing phases of the casting tools. 3D printing with a plaster based material as a rapid prototyping technique presents…
