An allusion is a reference to a well-known, person, event, or text. There are four types of allusions such as: biblical allusion, literary allusion, historical statement and cultural allusion. authors use allusions to add interest to a story or text. the phrase, “Telling Trinity was the Achilles heel of the plan for a surprise party for Ashely”, contains an allusion to Achilles who was a Greek hero.

The allusion refers to Achilles who was a Greek hero in the Trojan war and was killed in the end of the war by an arrow in the heel. The person who killed Achilles was called Paris. This is a literary allusion because it relates to Greek mythology. The weakest part of Achilles body was the heel.

An “Achilles heel” means the weak part of something.
