Four Types of Courage

When asking many people if they know what courage is. Most respond with naming a television actor or comic book hero. Others choose real-life heroes, often those who confront great physical danger such as policemen, firefighters, and soldiers. As a result of our culture, we view courage as a batman fighting joker situation. I’ve learned that courage is not an emotion among others, but the foundation on which all other virtues and values rest. Therefore, courage is divided into four types-physical, social, moral, and creative. Physical courage is familiar to many people: is courage in the face of physical pain, hardship, death, or threat of death. For example, when a building is caught on fire, people call the fire department. Firefighters run inside that building regarding their safety to help and protect the people trapped inside. Regardless of the situation they make sure the people are safe, and sometimes losing their lives to save a stranger. Putting their lives on the line, not to overpower or harm others, but to serve and protect them. In these actions they deserve much respect for their hard work and dedication to serving others. The second category, social courage: is defined by many different standards. In general, the term is usually referred to when civilians stand up against something that is deemed unjust and evil, knowing that the consequences of their action might lead to their death, injury or some other form of significant harm. In fact in many countries like Brazil, France, and Germany, civil courage is enforced by law; this means that if a crime is committed in public, the public is obliged to act, either by alerting the authorities, or by intervening in the conflict. If the crime is committed in a private environment, those who witness the crime must either report it to the authorities or attempt to stop it.
