Fourth of July Family Reunion
Fourth of July is a holiday that is meaningful to my family because it’s the one time of the year that we set for everyone to get acquainted. We plan all year long to make sure that we come together to make this day special. Everyone from the adults to the kids play an important role in making this one day out the year go as planned. The fourth of July is the time to cook, bake, take pictures and go to the park. The fourth of July is a special day. It’s the time when my family comes from Georgia, Florida, Michigan, and lot of other places just to spend time with family. Whether they drive, fly or walk across the street; my family makes sure they do their best to make it. Although it’s only once a year, I look forward to seeing everyone. There usually are some added additions to the family whether it’s a new baby or a new marriage; I get excited about spending time with them.
The best part of the reunion is the cooking. My mom always makes the desserts. There is nothing like an old fashion pound cake, red velvet cake, butternut, and chocolate cake. She has some of the best recipes in town. My great Aunt Ment, who is one of the eldest members of our family, comes all the way from Miami, FL. She makes the best chicken dressing, which my family says cannot be duplicated. While we are doing all the cooking and baking, my uncle Joe is always sneaking snapshots and videotaping us when we least expect it.
While the women are in the kitchen, the men of the family have taken the barbeque grill to the park. They go prepare all the meats for our family picnic, which is the biggest part of the reunion. It’s a treat to see them competing over who makes the best ribs on the grill. I personally think that all of them do a great job. While the grownups are doing all the cooking, the kids are having a good time playing games and getting to know each other. It’s a joy to see them playing with each
