In the year of 1905, a summer fire burnt the original Unitarian Universalist church in Oak Park down. Frank who came from a family of Unitarians was appointed to build a new church which was Unity Temple. The building is monumental for it is a perfect combination of aesthetical beauty and a modern building material--- reinforced concrete. Another thing brought forward from his works before is stained glass. In order to reduce the noise from the street, Wright eliminated street level windows. Instead, he put stained glass windows in the roof and clerestories. Green, yellow and brown tones were used on the stained glass to give a feeling of nature. The entrance of the building locates at the centre of the structure which shields the interior space from the noise outside. On the material side, Unity Temple was constructed entirely with reinforced concrete which makes it considered to be the first modern architecture. With this new kind of material at that time, he could build a temple which was perfect for ‘God to gather people’. Wright stated that this design was the first time he ever realized that the real heart of a building is its space, not its walls. His concept of ‘Unity’ was emphasized by fusion of space material and experience. The plan for Unity Temple is closely related to the centralized churches of the Renaissance, being similarly based on pure geometries of the square and cube. Perfect geometries of the structure prominent the feeling of God within us and coherent with the stained glass window in the clerestories and roof.
