A slight breeze blew throughout the dandy forest, swaying the stiff lifeless trees and blowing the black stained leaves across my bare white feet. As I stumbled across the dead landscape, a slight fog swam around blending in with the increasingly falling snow. Hundreds of dark wood surrounding me seemed to slowly cave in, creating a narrow cave-like passage. An eerie feeling swept over me, and I stopped completely, analysing every detail around me. The smog became thicker, blinding the scenery and almost completely covering my vision. I sensed an inhuman presence watching me, and flinched whenever a snapping sound came from a faraway distance. I slowly turned around and began pacing in the direction I came from. The fog smothered me but I kept running, …show more content…
Snow started to shower as if on a peaceful rainy night and I look for any opening, trying to escape this creature that was following me. I could make out a large building figure ahead and ran directly to it, exhorting my energy as I advanced through the shivers in my body and aching bloodstained legs. An old tainted church-like mansion appeared as the fog cleared and I forced my way up the frigid sleet hill and onto a rusty pavement beside the building. I leaned upon the 5-metre tall wooden door trying to hear any sound coming from inside the outsized building, trying to sense any civilisation as the sky slowly turned into a rich black shade. I knocked onto the polished door, trying to depict a reaction from the owner that might've lived in this secluded place. Lights started to rapidly appear above the door and forming a luminous loop around the entire mansion, whilst the door blew open with such force that I was knocked back onto my spine. I tried to scamper away on my knees as a spine-chilling sensation started to form from what was a supernatural

It seemed like I was wandering into a different dimension. My senses were becoming acquainted to new feelings: guttural whispers, excruciating odour, ponderous glass-like air and the cemented, pungent, taste of death! As I opened the door candlelight rose to greet me but who lit them? I was informed that the secluded house I was purchasing has been unoccupied forever.…

The feeling of loneliness leads people to feel miserable. In the story Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley, there are many factors which cause the characters to feel miserable and lonely. The primary theme of Frankenstein is loneliness, and Shelley clearly communicates this theme by using characterization, symbolism, and setting to convey this theme to the reader.…

Frankenstein is a literally fantastic novel, in which a gentle creation, the Monster, is shunned by his creator, Victor Frankenstein, as well as all other humans. The Monster becomes so dejected that he turns murderous and vows to destroy Victor’s life. The book is definitely fiction, as the Monster happens to be eight feet tall and superior to humans in almost every way save looks. Although this is probably the most evident distortion from reality, many others appear although not quite so blatantly. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelly uses symbolism and distortions between the world of the book and the real world to demonstrate the truth of Romantic ideals.…

The story of Frankenstein has many different aspects to it but the one in which I choose to examine was the idea of the double which is clearly shown in the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. In 1816 Mary Shelley travelled to Switzerland this trip inspired Mary Shelley to write the story of Frankenstein she used a lot of her experiences to affect the story one example of this is the influence that poetry and nature has on a lot of the characters in the novel was highly influenced by the fact that her husband was a poet.…

Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, is arguably one of the most controversial novels of the 19th Century. It discusses the concept of science verses human conscience in a technological world. The Gothic atmosphere of the novel reflects the dark feelings of society at the time, and Shelley utilised pathetic fallacy, her chosen form and imagery to suggest a twist on the real monster of her story. Shelley uses poetical language and perspective to emphasise how the monster is a model Romaticist, and to express the importance of belonging and communication to a judgemental society. Symbols, contrasts and ‘heavenly’ adjectives are used to portray Victor Frankenstein as a God-like figure; expressing how we must never interfere with nature’s course and take on God’s role to the knowledge-greedy culture of the 1800’s, which was consumed with the Industrial Revolution. Shelley has manipulated her writing to convey her personal ideologies, and to reflect her concern for a loss of ethics in a society fixated on the pursuit for answers.…

Optics flickered towards the west a smile drawing itself upon the lips of the male. He adored moons such as this, known readily in the ancient world as the harvest or wolf moon, the circular orb in the sky shown such as this only twice per year; once in the spring and once in the fall during the equinox consisting of exactly 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night. Such moons were both a blessing and a curse, for though they granted better light in which to hunt by it also meant the prey was able to see the predator with increased ease as there were fewer shadows in which to stalk. But it did not matter for this turn of the tables would only last so long before it moved in favor of the predator once again. When the moon was…

There are obvious similarities between Victor and his creation; each is abandoned, isolated, and both start out with good intentions. However, Victor's ego in his search for god-like capabilities overpowers his humanity. The creature is nothing but kind until society shuns him as an outcast on account of his deformities. The creature is more humane than his own creator because his wicked deeds are committed in response to society's corruption, while Frankenstein's evil work stems only from his own greed.…

I was led by the smoke cloud to a quaint little cottage. It did not appear to be vacant. As I was approaching the door, I noticed a faint glow in the arched window. I assumed it was candlelight. In the corner of my eye, I sensed movement. A blurry and small outline of a person topped the hill. I decided to go in to the cottage even though the movement still was etched my mind. Once in, I walked through a small sitting circle and felt warmth from the fire burning stove. Into the kitchen was a table with food. A warm and fresh prepared meal was set out for two guests. The table had turkey, peas, green beans, bread and pie. I hadn’t eaten since this morning so I decided to help myself to a plate. As I was about to take a bite of the turkey, the wood door pushed open. This sound startled me to the point of coughing. The blurred figure came through the door. It was the person I saw in field. That person was carrying a basket full of garden vegetables. When the person saw me, she asked me who I was and why I was in her house. I told her about my hunting experience and how I had walked upon the cottage. I let her know about how cold it was and that I needed a little warmth and something to eat. She didn’t feel sorry for me in the least bit. I felt extremely bad because she had made this meal for her husband and children. I gave her my regards and lots for rabbits to enjoy. I left on my horse…

The wind sliced into my skin, cutting like a butcher’s knife through raw meat, as I hurried onwards, making my way through the overgrown forest, pulling my coat around my shivering body to try and protect myself. The feeling that someone was following me gnawed at the edges of my mind as I travelled, and with every step my inner-conscience urged me to turn back but I couldn’t; this was a matter of life or death, and I had to push myself no matter how much it hurt. The remaining shards of my confidence were all too quickly stolen though, as out of the corner of my eye I saw something fly through the corbeau2 undergrowth. I froze, my heart beat fast; pounding erratically3 against my chest as I scanned the shadows for any sign of life, but I neither saw or heard a thing. A feeling of dread washed over my bones as I slowly looked up. I couldn’t hear any owls, or birds, not even wolves in the far off distance howling up to the flavescent4 moon; I was completely alone. Shivering slightly, I turned and hurried on, trying to shake off the ever-present feeling of being watched.…

The air was beginning to cool. The street was dark and quiet. I looked at the houses and realised that I couldn’t see any lights on in any of them. I continued to let my legs guide my directions. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a light from an apartment shining through the navy blue curtains of the window. “Click, clack, click,” I thought I heard footsteps. Whoosh! I turned around and no one was there. “I’m being paranoid. Why would anyone follow me?” I thought to myself. I had an eerie feeling about those footsteps. Something wasn’t right. I smelt a strong French perfume that intoxicated the air.…
