of Paper II my introduction is a bit lengthy and contains run-ons. Through the process of revision, I paid close attention to coherence and areas where my assertions were lost due to wordiness. Although my writing process for Frankenstein was lengthy, the most dramatic change did not occur until Draft 4. In the fifth draft I decided to really focus on Mary Shelly’s favored patriarchal social system in Frankenstein. By narrowing my ideas to this topic, I was able to describe Shelley’s depiction of women’s social status as well as the stereotypical duties associated with the female characters. By refocusing my argument, I was able to not only develop an introduction that was controlled but also formulate a challenging thesis. I think the final draft of the introduction, particularly the thesis, moved from arguing women’s inessential role in society to focusing on the characteristics of the patriarchal system and the death of Elizabeth and Caroline.
