In Frankenstein it shows the gothic element evil through the acts of Victor and his Monster. Through what Victor did in ignoring his creation, not doing anything with him and abandoning him was
cruel in chapter 5. For what the Monster did afterword, on killing the brother of victor, William, in chapter 16 and murdering Victor’s wife , Elizabeth, in chapter 23. These were acts of evil that were both connected through one another. In which through Victor, since he abandoned his creation it never got to learn his place through the world. Which later lead through the events in the novel where the Monster hated the world as a whole and took his anger out on it.
It shows mystery in Frankenstein through the creation of Frankenstein itself. The author, Mary Shelley, never really said how the monster came to be alive. All she really said was on how Victor studied alchemy, biology, electricity, pseudo-genetic engineering, and early genetics. She never explains the procedure behind it and how the monster still walked the earth. We readers are left to wonder what type of mystical science was used to resurrect such a being.
As how it shows the element of supernatural it is the same reason as before. The monster itself being alive is a supernatural occurrence. The way the monster was created through deceased body parts and was stitched up together is not and never will be natural. Victor created something that is far out and ludicrous in what was suppose to be the 1700’s. The way the monster itself also shows how it relates himself to satan can be called supernatural due to the elements it contains of God and the Devil.
There was also a lot of romanticism in the novel, the most being the emotions it portrayed throughout the story. Fear, when Victor was trying to create a second monster, he was starting to get paranoid of what the two monsters will do, and destroyed the second monster. Anger, when the monster was traveling through the world, he was not treated very well due to his appearance, this led to it being enraged at the world and later to Victor for abandoning it, this also later led to Victor being angry at the monster because of what it did. Despair/ grief, Victor shows these emotions through the deaths of william and especially Elizabeth, this also killed Victor at the end.
