Dear, sophomore
The book that I read is titled “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline. I would definitely recommend this book to any incoming juniors for their summer reading assignment. This book is a wonderful action packed dystopian thriller. This book takes you through a beautifully described virtual video game world, a concept that I felt weird about at first but began to love it as the book moved on.
This book takes place in the year 2044, the main character Wade Watts lives in a trailer park home and has a pretty poor life. To escape this he plays a video game called OASIS, this game which was created by James Halliday, a very smart man who likely had aspergers and a very big obsession with the 1980’s. Due to this obsession many themes in this game revolve around vintage video games and cool music such as Rush’s rock opera “2112”. If you are anything like me these references would immediately draw you into this book. This fake world was like everything good about earth and you can eliminate any inconveniences. For example Wade would always get bullied in real school, but in Oasis where you can be whoever you want he wouldn't get bullied. This world also gave Wade the option to mute bullies if they ever were an issue.
The characters in this story were great and funny in a way, because you didn’t necessarily know who they were in real life. For example Wade found out that his best friend in the game “Aech” was really an overweight African American female. I found the characters and their friendships to be very interesting considering that they don’t even know eachothers real names and they still seemed to know each other like childhood friends. “We hit it off immediately because we shared all of the same interests” said Wade about his online girlfriend “Art3mis”. Concepts like virtual relationships are things that made me feel a bit iffy about the book at first but towards the end when Wade’s

The idea of creating such a peculiar story is definitely brilliant and extraordinary. Moreover, the story is well-developed and events are put in a proper order thus the tension rises gradually, and it is impossible to get bored and eventually put the book down. A great advantage of the novel are comprehensive descriptions which perfectly depict the world that the author has created. Nevertheless, some of the depictions are hard-hitting since they contain violence and brutal scenes of deaths which some may deem as too cruel and detailed, especially for the young readers. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning, that this novel is not just a typical page-turner since Suzanne Collins raises serious subjects such as political issues, devaluation of human life and social injustices.…
