You require a constant flow of electronic hardware and volunteers to sift through the technology, turning it community change and environmental care. We can see that you are trying to get your hands on additional discarded computers through your collaboration with Multnomah County, and that your efforts to spread positive technological change continue to increase in ambition. To spread awareness and increase the notoriety of your deserving organization, we would like to produce posters promoting your organization to the students of PCC Rock Creek campus. By spreading your mission and showing the students the skills and resources you offer, we are sure we can increase the inclusiveness of Free Geek.

Many of the students at PCC do not have technology they need to succeed. There are on campus labs and a computer lending program in the library, but due to a growing student population, many individuals are not given access. PCC students desire self reliant solutions to their problems, but they many can not afford it. Your 24 hour adoption program offers a novel and impactful solution to that problem. Trash, garbage, junk, debris-all alternatively known as litter-scattered across the 268,597 square miles of Texas on our highways and landscapes. Where former First Lady Claudia Alta "Lady Bird" Johnson aspired to see bright and colorful wildflower blanketing the great Texas countryside, oftentimes we only see disturbing amounts of garbage. This is what I aim to change. Through my school's Key Club I have had the opportunity to have a positive impacts in reducing the "over 435 million pieces of visible litter" covering "our empire wide and glorious." In the thirty-eight total service hours I have dedicated to both Texas Adopt-A-Highway and school wide recycling the amount of litter that myself and the generous volunteers…

I served as a student volunteer for Hammer and Nails a non-profit organization that works to serve the community with the mission of improving the quality of lives for low-income families through home repair. Most of the home owners in Canton, Ohio faced financial hardship and could not fund the extensive repair and renovation that their homes needed and thus relied on volunteer services for help. Through my time spent with Hammer and Nails I savored learning about the families within the community and how their lives were impacted by the local volunteers throughout many years. I enjoyed helping in the office with administrative work and with home renovations through painting and carpeting. I learned that a healthy life begins at home, and a clean and well-constructed home contributes to good physical and mental health.…

Although being a leader of my school’s robotics team has not changed my career goals, it has greatly influenced my goals in the terms of community service. Since joining the team, I have volunteered for far more volunteering opportunities than I would have if I were to do them alone. For example, as team we have packaged thousands of nutritional meals for families in Central and South America. Furthermore, we have volunteered at other STEM related events in our immediate community. One of our larger service programs is the NXT Repurpose Project, which repurposes outdated robot brains, so that they are along with Lego robotics kits to less fortunate students across the world. So far, we have donated robotics kits to students in Ghana, Kenya, and Serbia. In June this summer, we plan to travel to Kenya for approximately two weeks. While we are there, we will personally mentor and teach students how to build and program robots one-on-one, so that they will be exposed to STEM concepts with fun! Finally, being a leader for my robotics team has pushed me to commit myself to serve my community locally and globally more and more. Therefore, my goals are to volunteer for Living Lands and Waters, the American Red Cross, the AmeriCorps, Engineers Without Borders,…

On a daily basis I encounter a number of issues on the PGCC campus but the one that affects me the most is the problem with the computer labs. When I know I have to complete an assignment on campus I get an instant headache. Not because I have to do the work but because I know the hassle I have to go through to find a computer lab that isn’t overcrowded and actually has computers that are working. Ashlee Davis, a current student here at PGCC also agrees that the computer labs here on the campus are a big issue. She goes on to say that, “When it comes time to use the campus computer…

Tuesday, December the eighth, I had my first experience volunteering. As an active member of Webster County High School’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club, I decided that I would leave archery practice a few minutes early and head towards the Providence Food Bank. Every second Tuesday of each month, HOSA meets at the food bank at five-thirty to help prepare senior citizen boxes and assist people in shopping at the food bank. Intrigued by the opportunity to gain a few bonus points and support the club that I am passionate about, I figured why not give it a…

Spelman College’s motto, A Choice to Change the World, mirrors my goal as a member of this intellectual community. During my first year at this institution, I dedicated myself to several hours of community service. I found that this was a vital part of my intellectual growth as both a student and person within society. This year I volunteered for several nonprofit organizations, however I dedicated most of my time to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Before volunteering for this organization I was not quite sure how I would be able to make a significant difference in my community. However, when I volunteered for this organization, I was able to tremendously help people in Atlanta. Likewise, this experience opened my eyes to the increasing…
