Video Free-Write Freedom Summer In the documentary film Freedom Summer we get to hear the experience of many brave civil rights activists who were part of the fight to challenge racism in Mississippi during 1964. Civil rights groups launched Freedom Summer where thousands of volunteers from out of state traveled to Mississippi to help register voters and set up freedom schools.
I see a connection between “Is Racism Over Yet?” by Laci Green and the movie in the concept of how racism is perceived. Laci Green says, “Racism is an invisible system of discrimination and injustice that is upheld by our social institutions” and what she means by this is that racism is perceived by a social system that is unfair.
