Citizens of the United States of America are blessed that their inalienable rights are recognized by the government. The government was established to serve the people and protect the rights numerated in the Constitution. United States citizens have powers that stem far beyond basic freedoms such as speech, religion and press; they have the freedom to bear arms. United States citizens take full advantage of their rights; it is estimated that there are 89 firearms for every 100 residents, making the U.S. the best armed civilian population in the world (Morgenstern).
The Second Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791 as a part of the Bill of Rights (Lund and Winkler). Gun control has existed in the United States for well over 100 years.
