Freedom Writers Paper Freedom writer is a movie based upon classroom 203, filled with “unfit” students, and a teacher trying to reach out to them. This movie was made during the time of the LA riots where racism war was at its highest. When the school faculty and the students themselves felt it to be a helpless cause to be teached, Mrs. Gruwell stands her ground and tries to prove them all wrong. With violence and discrimination as a factor playing against her, this seems to be a troublesome cause. But eventually after a while the students in class 203 and Mrs. Gruwell become fond of each other. But throughout the movie there was true tension between Mrs. Gruwell and Eva. It took more time and patients for Mrs. Gruwell to get Eva to open up. The transactional model, the model of encoding and decoding, was used to analysis Mrs. Gruwell and Eva’s relationship and how the responded to each other. For they were always neck and neck towards each other. There was noise, that affected the way they interacted with each other as well. During the classroom scene where the students passed around a drawing of Jamal; Eva and Mrs. Gruwell ended up having a confrontation. While Mrs. Gruwell confronted the class about the drawing, Eva is sitting back in her chair with a studious face, listening to Mrs. Gruwell words. Then with a cocky attitude Eva speaks up to Mrs. Gruwell exclaiming that Mrs. Gruwell knows nothing. While Eva talks, Mrs. Gruwell silently stares at Eva giving her, her full attention. Eva then sits up from her chair leans forward and talks about life struggles. Mrs. Gruwell just curiously dazed walks closer towards her, never taking her gaze off her. Eva keeps speaking using profound language and body gesture, such as hand movement, to emphasis her point. After Eva confronts Mrs. Gruwell about what exactly she is doing for her, Mrs. Gruwell
