There are many differences and similarities in the book and movie Our America. The book and the movie Our America is a story about two best friends, both teenagers named LeAlan and Lloyd. They went throughout their neighborhood recording everything that happens in their daily life and what happens in their neighborhood on a daily basis. The reason it is called Our America is because they want to show the readers “their America” in the ghetto. I think that the book and the movie version of Our America have more differences than similarities.…

The Breakfast Club is a simple but beautiful 1980’s movie about a group of teenagers that end up realizing they are all going through some tough situations. While The Breakfast Club was made for entertainment purposes, it can be a great learning tool. Just from studying the movie, a student can realize they should not judge a book by it’s cover. For a student-teacher, this movie is a great tool in observing what happens when teachers decide not to invest their time into their students. Analyzing the teacher in the movie could open a potential teacher’s eyes too what they could end up doing wrong and how that could end up harming a student.…

The first major argument the film seems to make is that our current education system needs to encourage a more motivating teaching style. Pamela Harris and Ralph Johnson state, “The traditional teaching approaches are generally teacher-directed and follow cookbook steps of activities and demonstrations. This approach may not provide students with valuable skills or even with a body of knowledge that lasts much beyond the end of the term” (par 2). As an education major, you are being taught how to teach in college. But when you get in front of your actual class, you…

Lincoln is a movie based off of Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin, which portrays the latter end of Abraham Lincoln’s illustrious career. The film is based around Congressional debate and Lincoln’s attempts to pass the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery in the United States. The movie is centered in Washington D.C. and the areas surrounding it between the Emancipation Proclamation in January, 1863, and the death of Lincoln in April, 1865. The film raises the issues of slavery, ending the Civil War, political strife, familial strife and general morality. Lincoln, being a Hollywood film, was meant to entertain the viewers. However, the movie sticks so close to reality that the movie is not as entertaining, rather more informative. The major themes of the film all…

Being a military brat I was raised around all different kinds of race, religion, cultures, and so on. I know what it is like to be that one with different views and values. Relating to students is really important to me because I want them to always feel safe and comfortable in my classroom. Multicultural education is education that teaches the value of cultural diversity (Slavin, 2012). There are five dimensions that fall under multicultural education, which are content integration, knowledge construction, prejudice reduction, empowering school culture. These five dimensions are different strategies to implement diversity in the classroom, and using culture examples in our content area. I have learned many things through the five dimensions of multicultural education and will implement it in my classroom. In one of my journal entries I stated “I am really glad that I read up on this and now I can bring this to the table at our first meeting on Thursday “(entry 3). Reading all of this information I was able to bring information to our group meeting, and everyone was very grateful for the information. We have been working on a plan to implement throughout all of the classes, in our “6th Grade…

A diverse culture is a dramatic change in our society and will continue to impact the educational system. Teachers must be able to teach students who have different languages and ethnicities with culturally appropriate strategies. This requires that teachers not only know the subject matter they are teaching but know how to make it understandable to a multicultural group of students. Teachers should be sensitive to all ethnic groups and not have cultural bias when working with students and their…

The story of “Freedom Writers” was set in Long Beach. Erin was a new teacher who believed the way to stop racial hatred is to change the young’s minds. The students in the school where she worked divided into four camps: whites, Latinos, Cambodians, and blacks. Every group hated each other. Erin wanted to change this condition and wanted everyone to change. In fact, she did it. Now here is question. Why Erin could do something that others did not finish?
