Frida Kahlo is known worldwide as one of the most revolutionary self-portrait artists. She had a difficult life but produced some of the finest paintings ever created by a Latin American painter. She remains a feminist icon for the way she led her life. Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderon, as her name appears on her birth certificate but she is known for Frida Kahlo. Kahlo’s life began and ended in Mexico City, in her home, which is known as "La Casa Azul,”Frida Kahlo was a Mexican self-portrait artist. Frida Kahlo was born July 6, 1907 in Coyoacan Mexico City. She suffered lifelong health problems, many of which were caused by a traffic accident she survived as a teenager she suffered nearly fatal injuries. In addition, her right foot was dislocated and crushed, and her shoulder was out of joint. Recovering from her injuries isolated her from other people, and this isolation influenced her works, many of which are self-portraits. After the accident she began to paint to occupy herself during the tree-months immobilization. In 1922, Frida Kahlo was in the best educational institution in Mexico, the National Preparatory School. It was there she first encountered Diego Rivera, who was painting a mural in the school. Frida Kahlo had approximately 30 operation or even more in her lifetime. At age 6, Frida was stricken with polio, which caused her right leg to appear much thinner than the other. It was to remain that way permanently. Frida Kahlo died when she was 47 years old. Kahlo always admired the work of the famous Mexican painter Diego Rivera. She first meets him in 1927. Rivera was impressed with her work. He encourages her to keep painting
