The movie Friday Night Lights had a character that closely follows my beliefs of the natural athlete. That character was Boobie Miles. Boobie was portrayed as the perfect depiction of being born elite. He didn’t need practice, Boobie was a natural. His teammate asked if he lifted weights that day or not Boobie responded, “C'mon man. This is god given. The only thing I gotta do is show up.”

He graced the cover of one of sports most illustrious magazines as an 18-year-old. Clearly LeBron was born with incredible physical genes. You simply do not find too many people in the world that are 6’8’’, 250 pounds and can move the way that man can. His work ethic and the endless amount of time he has put into the sport of basketball is what has made him “King James.”
LeBron James is a prime example of being physically gifted. But, even though he is gifted it does not mean he did not have to put in work to get to the level he is at today. The same goes for all of sport’s greatest players. Now days young kids believe they can survive with just their skill set alone. We see thousands of these athletes unable to translate their youthful success to the professional level. Your personal attributes can help beat your competition but it is your work ethic that can put you over the top. It divides the exclusive from the rest of the pack.
All in all, athletes surely are gifted, but they must apply themselves to become great. The naturally born athlete is a myth in my opinion. There is no evidence of any athlete today not having to work to become the best. There is no evidence of any gene that further enhances one’s ability to participate in any given sport. It is through training, conditioning, and practice that athletes become
