The most meaningful line in Steinbeck's novel that creates the theme is "because I got you to look after me and you got me to look after you ". This line shows the aspect of pure friendship. They have to rely on each other because they're connected Lennie and George weren’t even family but still they had this unbreakable bound. When one of them is in need or trouble they will be there for each other.
Next George was very supportive to the theme. George is one of the characters in the novel mice of men. He is the best friend of Lennie and his keeper . An important line that was said by George in the novel is "I ain't mad, I never been mad. An' I'm not mad now." Showed how George had never really hated Lennie. But this whole time he had just lost his temper because he truly loves Lennie and they are best friends no matter what .
Shockingly, the shooting of Lennie was the most significant to the theme. "Right in the back of the head." the quote shows George's difficult but reasonable action. Shooting Lennie was very hard for George, but George did it to keep Lennie safe from curly and the others that were coming after him . The line shows how George shot Lennie that George might have taken his Best friends life, but 'it was out of friendship and friends will do anything to keep each other safe, even if it means shooting the other.
Also, a symbol corresponding to the theme of friendship is the brush in the area that George and Lennie spent a little time in . A great line that shows this is “ if you jus' get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here an' hide in the brush." This line shows that George and Lennie have a spot together that connected some sort of bounding. Somewhere where if one of them are in trouble they can return to . If one does, then the other will know where to find the other and they can solve problems out alone in a place that is isolated from the others that is peaceful . where the brush is no one will be able to find them and they have each other’s company .
In conclusion, friends will do anything for you is a line to support the theme of friendship in the book mice and men by John Steinbeck. Friends will do anything to keep you safe or compliment. which may include death the choice George had to make. Finalizing and knowing your friend will always be there for you may be just enough to keep you safe because friendship is a very important aspect in your life.

“Well look Lennie- if you jus’ happen to get in trouble like you’ve always done before, I want you to come right back here and hide in the brush. Can you remember that” George told Lennie. “I sure can George.” Lennie said back to George. Throughout the novel George and Lennie's relationship is put on display as George a role model to Lennie and Lennie is incredibly loyal to George. Lennie looked up to George consequently wanted to be just like George. If we did not have the relationship of George and Lennie shared with us in Of Mice to Men it would be a bland book with a poorly displayed plot. George, the semi- protagonist, sharing his leading role with Lennie, is emotionally stable, quick witted, and toned. This misconception creates a rather large effect on how the audience perceives him. George and Lennie are attempting to repel against loneliness, by not living in the lifestyle of an itinerant worker. George is considerably lonelier than most suspecting characters. ‘No, you stay with me, your aunt Clara wouldn’t like you running off.’ Steinbeck has used an imperative word, and a form of repetition. As he engages with the word ‘No’ it clarifies that George is conscious of his loneliness, therefore inducing Lennie to stay with him. Because George was stuck within the years of the great depression, he has a general idea of the structure of how life would change his personality. Because of this, George has unwillingly created this unusual bond with Lennie.…

By looking at the main characters, George and Lennie individually, one can see the contrast between them in both physical appearances and their nature. For George, “every part of him was defined”, while Lennie is the exact opposite as he was “a huge man, shapeless of face, with large pale eyes and sloping shoulders” (Steinbeck,2). Their differences help create an idea that together they can achieve anything put across their path, especially the American dream. With George being the leader of the pair, his desire to keep Lennie…

From the moment they are born, all humans have the innate need to be a with others. Babies cry when they want to be held, cliques form in schools, people get married, and families stick closely together throughout the years - all because humans need to ensure that they will not be alone, that they will have a companion. In the realistic fiction novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, the theme of companionship plays an important role. Throughout the story, Steinbeck emphasises the importance of companionship in life by creating characters who live with or without companionship. Companionship was especially important in the lives of the characters in the novella because the story takes place in the 1930’s. During that time, several events, the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, tested…

The first example of love from George to Lennie is when the characters first run over to the pool. Steinbeck uses a variety of techniques such as similes and animal imagery andalso profanities to determine George and Lennies relationship. ‘snorting into the water like a horse… forgodsakes don’t drink so much… Jesus Christ you crazy bastard.’ The animal imagery of a horse makes Lennie seem slappy, awkward and unhygienic. The profanities used by George shows how much effort it takes to keep this simple-minded man in line. Most people say ‘opposites attract’ and Lennie and George fits this picture perfectly. Their complementary relationship is full of love when we understand that they are very different but perfectly matched.…

Steinbeck makes it so George and Lennie, have a huge amount of friendship emitted from their bond that was between them. One way this is shown is when Lennie and George talk about their dream, and Lennie brings up that, “I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you”, page 14. First, this presents the facts that both George and Lennie have each other to take care of, and that each of them would protect each other in times of danger and harm. In addition, this shows that they have a special bond towards each other, and they enjoy spending time with one another. Steinbeck also illustrates the friendship of George and Lennie when they start talking about their dream (George and Lennie would have their own land, with a house, and many other items on this land). This depicts a strong bond of friendship between the two because it shows that they want to live with each other, plus the fact they want to be with each other even if times become tough.
