Friendship Is One of the Most Valuable Things in Life
Friendship is one of the most valuable things in life. Based on Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, the definition of a friend is, “A person whom one knows, likes and trusts.” Because there are many different types of friends that people want or need, the meaning of a ‘real friend’ depends on their ideas. However, my personal opinions of characteristics that make a good friend are being honest, loyal, and polite.

Honesty is an essential characteristic of a true friend because it is one of the criteria that we judge each other. If a friend cannot be considered as being honest, he will not have good relationships with his friends. Moreover, if we can't trust our friends to tell you the truth, they shouldn't be our friends. When people tell lies, they would act nervous and not look at our face directly. However, an honest friend is not afraid to look us in the eyes and they mostly stay calm. Therefore, you can be sure that he would never betray you.

Loyalty should also be found in a true friend. Loyal friend keeps secrets and promises, and is someone who will always protect you. Not being loyal to someone may cause them to get hurt and, you won’t have a real good friendship. A loyal friend sometimes does not hesitate to risk their life for you. For example, they would make you relieved by saying that “no matter what happens, I will always be by your side!

A true friend should also be polite so that he would not hurt our feelings. Rude friends easily make us feel bad because they do not concern how we would feel. They only get what they want and rarely share their properties and belongings with other people. On the other hand, polite friends always have good manners in speaking and behavior. Then we would have no arguments or quarrel with them which will make the relationship better.

As a conclusion, being honest, loyal, and polite are the three characteristics of a true friend. If we are searching for a true friend, we should observe whether our friends have

What a true friend is not is also really important, some people think a true friend is one that barely talk to you unless they need something. If you think someone is your true friend look at how they treat you if they call you out on your flaws or the way you dress they probably aren’t a true friend or a friend at all for that matter. If you do have a friend that you are always with but the conversation is always about them then the friendship is not a real one.
