Titration is a method, which is meant to find the concentration of either an acid or a base by adding a measured amount of it to a known volume and concentration of an acid or base1. Titration starts with a beaker or Erlenmeyer flask containing a very precise volume of the known concentration solution and a small amount of indicator, which is put underneath a burette containing the solution with unknown concentration1. Small drops of the titrant are then added to the known solution and indicator until the indicator changes which means the endpoint has been reached. Single drops of the titrant can sometimes make a permanent or temporary change in the indicator2.…
We've recently watched the movie 23 Skidoo both in class and on our own time at home. When I first saw it in class, I was a bit confused and I didn't really understand what was happening in the film. After re-watching it, I understood that it is a film about a post-nuclear bomb explosion. What's different about this movie is that there is no narrative, or actors, but there is music. I find that it makes you concentrate more on what's happening in the film because no one's explaining it to you. The music featured in the film wasn't continuous. It made the setting more mysterious because sometimes, the music would be almost scary sounding, and you'd think that something was about to happen. It made me create other scenarios…
What is the correct technical name for the music that plays in the background of a scene while the action takes place…
The Shining is a 1980’s horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The horror film is based on Stephen King’s novel The Shining. The Shining is a classic horror film that uses death and insanity to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The Shining is as psychological as horror gets. This film didn’t show us cheap tricks, loud noises, or dramatic bloody scene like the average horror film. This film gets under your skin, it shows us something frightening that we don’t fully comprehend. One of the scariest things for people to face in the unknown. The Shining also could be seen as a Drama. The genre, Drama, focuses on the characters and the realistic emotional struggles they face. We see resentment, frustration, annoyance, insanity, etc.…
The music in the movie, The Odyssey, could be described as powerful and something you could find in an adventure movie. Starting from Book 1, Homer…
In the scene “Barrels” Jaws (1975), of the three categories music was more prominent than any other. There were several conversations as well. When anyone thinks of Jaws, they think of the music. It creates a sense of danger, suspense, and apprehension. The music in this scene works well with the dialogue, lighting, and continuity of editing. Goddykoontz and Jacobs (2011) describe music as being “a crucial part of the movie-going experience” (Sec. 6.4; papa. 18).…
In the movie of 1408 sound is one of the things that makes it such a scare movie. An example of music being used to help scare you is when Mike looks out his window and sees a man watching tv. He waves at man and the man waves back but he then starts doing other things and the man copies whatever Mike is doing. Mike then sees a man beside the other man this makes mike think that maybe is behind him. With a loud sound que we see the other man attack Mike and after running from him the man is gone.…
To be crass is to be uncaring, or uneducated on a sensitive matter. Many people in the world come to a decision brashly or hastily with what they say and it comes out in a very ignorant way. Occurrences like this are becoming more frequent now than ever. This is because there are more problems that occur nowadays for people to have different opinions on. In Wonder, Julian acts crassly towards August throughout the whole story. He treats him like garbage and doesn't feel bad. He wasn't educated by his parents on people with disabilities like this and thus treated August poorly. Not because he was rude and obnoxious, but because he was ignorant. This proves that Julian was crass through his ignorance to the matter at hand and what he did with the area of missing knowledge.…
Richard Wagner was a German composer, theatre director, and conductor who is primarily known for his operas. His music can be heard in many movies and some are very popular. Among his popular music, you can include “Ride of the Valkyries” that is featured in the film “What’s Opera Doc?” Many of Wagner’s pieces of music tended to be more on the dramatic side, which influenced me to choose this classical music as one of my favorites.…
John Williams is one of this century’s most popular and successful American orchestral composers. While best known for his film scores and ceremonial music, Williams is also a wellknown composer and conductor of concert works. He has composed the music and served as music director for nearly eighty films. His scores are lush, complex and exciting often relying heavily on brass more than strings. He has an amazing ability to craft a theme that fits the emotional tone of a film and continues to echo that theme at just the right times and levels.…
Alan de Botton’s views on the vital role of humorists in conveying unpopular or difficult to say perspectives is mostly incorrect. While it is undeniable that humorists are allowed to say some things other people normally can’t, the role of humorists in society is not vital because of these messages, nor is this immunity all-powerful in protecting these humorists from backlash. The vital function of humorists in society is not to be some sort of activist (society has enough of those already), but rather to be funny—to pursue their chief aim of entertainment, and to make people laugh.…
Music is a powerful tool in our media to convey specific emotions from the audience. Television, film, news, sports, musicals and theatre are types of media using music to bring out our emotions. Music transports the audience into the world being watched. We use music on our phones and IPod’s to help motivate us to move. Movies use music to convey ideas and feelings to large audiences. Through music we feel and react to developments of the mood, landscape and tension in a part in the film. Can you imagine our favorite films without music? These films would not be as exciting without the orchestrated energy. The added music changes everything in the film, and a wonderful score can uplift a movie from decent to classic. The music from Star Wars:…
Milan Kundera – the author of The Unbearable Lightness of Being – had a history with music. His deep knowledge and understanding of music can be seen in the novel’s structure because it is not organized chronologically. After the discussion, I was able to analyze the novel and notice that since it is organized into themes it follows a musical composition. This also relates back to the different relationships the characters have with music; Tereza and Franz both enjoy music, but Sabina despises it because of her childhood experiences with…
First off, sound makes up a large part of film making, especially a Tim Burton film. For example, in The Nightmare Before Christmas the infamous theme song is loud and booming which causes a sense of suspense since it usually takes place in the dark streets of Halloween Town. In Edward Scissorhands when Edward sees Kim’s picture for the first time, the non-diegetic music is slow and soft to imply that he likes her. In Sleepy Hollow, the music is shrill and eerie as Icabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is riding his horse in the woods to try to lure the Headless Horseman out. An unearthly horse-like shrill is heard sending chills up my spine. The music quickly turns deafening and without noticing I’m leaning so close to the TV I’m about to fall out of my seat. Sound plays an indispensable role in many of Tim Burton’s films.…
